About the Role
We are seeking a Field Technician I to support the operation and maintenance of potable water treatment systems for emerging contaminates such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) at Fairchild Air Force Base (FAFB) in Washington. The job requires an understanding of basic plumbing and electrical systems and the ability to monitor construction contractors to ensure the performance of work in accordance with environmental and contractual requirements. The job may also require supporting the project team in the planning, execution, and reporting of field activities, including field oversight of contractors and/or assisting in-house field crews performing repair, maintenance, and sampling activities. The work being conducted is in response to 24-hour Hotline (emergency and non-emergency) calls received from homeowners in the area surrounding FAFB that have treatment systems, which may include weekends, after hours or on holidays as needed.
Responsibilities
- Respond to hotline calls, which may be required on weekends, after hours, or on holidays as needed to support the 24-hour hotline, to document and assess issues, and to coordinate and develop a follow-up plan of action with the Project Manager and government client.
- Oversight and management of field operations, including work conducted by subcontractors.
- Documentation of field activities and note-taking.
- Coordination and interaction with homeowners and the public in support of government clients.
- Support field teams conducting groundwater, surface water, and potable well treatment system sampling, as required.
- Support preparations for field operations, including cost estimating, development of subcontract scopes of work/specifications, subcontractor proposal review, procurement of field equipment, and scheduling of field activities.
Requirements
Required Experience and Skills
- Strong understanding of field safety and quality control procedures required.
- Excellent verbal communication and writing skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to execute multiple assignments at various locations, providing a consistently high level of quality and accuracy.
- Professional demeanor with a positive, solution-seeking attitude and personal responsibility.
- Basic understanding of plumbing and electrical systems.
- Experience providing oversight to contractors or a construction crew is a plus.
- Licensed driver.

Education and Training
- Minimum high school diploma, associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Preferred training: OSHA 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) training with current 8-hour update and OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Training. Other demonstrated safety, quality, or technical training will be considered favorably. Training may be provided for otherwise qualified applicants as required.
Physical Requirements
- Physically able to travel to field sites and traverse large areas by foot.
- Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds and handle field equipment.
Pay Range
The projected annual salary range for this position in Washington is $50,000 - $60,000. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant work experience, skills, education, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, as well as business considerations and contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
