TransCore (TCI), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a Field Engineering Technician II to join our team in Tampa, FL.
Summary:
This will be a diverse role supporting various Intelligent Transportation System projects for Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), County, and City contracts and customer equipment. Field tasks may include installation, modification and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical equipment. Office tasks will require computer skills such as Microsoft programs and effective communication. The candidate will be required to work outside.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain field equipment such as Close Circuit Television (CCTV), Lidar/Radar/Microwave Detection System units, and Dynamic Message Signs (DMS).
- Support Research & Development of new technologies including installation, troubleshooting, and creating professional documentation.
- Professional, clear, and effective communication through face to face, email, call and text.
- Meet with clients to perform field inspections, provide equipment access, witness testing and more.
- Analyze and understand project requirements to use during field meetings.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Ability to read and understand plans and FDOT standard specifications.
- Intermediate to Advanced skill level in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook, etc.)
- Basic networking experience (change IP address, basic coding is a plus)
- High and Low-Voltage electrical experience (wiring, soldering, replacing connectors, etc.)
- Mechanical experience (building/modifying mounts, tinkering on house projects, etc.)
- Must successfully complete required background / drug screening that TransCore initiates as part of the hiring process; additionally, successfully complete a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and State Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS) background screen when required by project.
- Must be willing and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions; work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed and required.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record; driving is required for the position.
- Strong Communication Skills
- Fiber splicing knowledge is a plus.
Training can be provided for earning the following required Certifications within the specified timelines:
- FDOT approved MOT Certification
- IMSA Technician I Certification within one year
- IMSA Technician II Certification within two years
- IMSA Inspector I Certification within two years
Education:
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Two-year college associate degree or technical school or equivalent military training and experience desired.
