Job Summary
This position is under the direction of the Audit Supervisors. Performs financial, compliance, and operational audits of County agencies or businesses as assigned. Responsible for gathering and analyzing sufficient evidence and data to reach a conclusion on the audit objectives. Prepares for audits by researching laws, regulations, and County ordinances. Collaborates with the Audit Supervisor during all phases of the audit process including developing the audit plan, the audit objectives and audit scope, and the audit procedures to achieve the audit objectives. Schedules entrance conferences for assigned audits. Completes audits within budget and time deadlines. Communicates results of internal audit to the Audit Supervisor, County Auditor and Management. Prepares audit reports and schedules exit conferences. Assists in the tracking and implementation of audit recommendations. Assigned to special assignments as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

Basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS) and the Institute of Internal Auditor's Standards (IIA). Knowledge of basic management practices and procedures. Basic knowledge of internal control concepts and procedures. Ability to question possible errors, irregularities, and illegal acts. Ability to ascertain compliance with laws, ordinances, and regulations. Basic skills in observing an entity's operations and documenting those observations with narratives or flowcharts. Ability to objectively and tactfully communicate with others. Ability to communicate in writing in a concise and grammatically correct manner. Skill in evaluating information for problem solving. Skill in organizing information in a logical manner to support audit results. Ability to maintain an attitude of professional skepticism throughout an audit. Working knowledge of applicable software programs, such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, SharePoint, Teams, Visio and Office 365. Ability to interact with client in resolving difficult audit issues.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree is required.
  • One (1) or more years' full-time work experience assessing risks, controls and processes for compliance, efficiency and/or effectiveness is required.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • In the process of a obtaining a professional credential, such as: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Government Audit Professional (CGAP), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), or Certified Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC).
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in Business Administration or Public Administration. Or pursing a degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or Public Administration.


Physical Requirements

Sedentary Work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
