KANE COUNTY JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:Deputy Auditor

FLSA: Exempt - Executive

BARGAINING UNIT: N/A

DEPT: Kane County Auditor’s Office

JOB SUMMARY:

Kane County is seeking a seasoned and highly motivated Deputy Auditor who will report directly to the County Auditor. This is a full-time (35 hours per week) management level position within the Office of the County Auditor.

The Office of the County Auditor supports the County's commitment to strengthening and safeguarding the County's operations and ensuring that appropriate internal controls are in place to minimize and mitigate risk. The Office of the County Auditor is responsible for the coordination and implementation of an audit work plan in accordance with professional standards, applicable state statutes, County Financial Policies and the County Code.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Deputy Auditor is responsible for extensive efforts in risk assessment and internal audit planning; coordinating, executing, and documenting audit findings; and following-up on remediation efforts. Work is to be completed in accordance with established professional standards.

The Office of the County Auditor supports the County's commitment to transparency and accountability to ensure effective communication with the public.

The Deputy Auditor is responsible for the maintenance and further development of the Kane County financial transparency platform.

The Deputy Auditor is responsible to manage certain functions of the Staff Auditor and/or the Accounts Payable Specialist.

The Deputy Auditor is responsible for other duties at the direction of the County Auditor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration or directly related field from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 24 semester hours (or 36 quarter hours) in Accounting plus substantial, highly responsible professional auditing experience in either a private, public, or governmental environment is required

Current certification in one, or more, of the following: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or Certified Governmental Auditing Professional (CGAP) is preferred.

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and the ability to develop and give presentations to all levels of County employees and officials, as well as contact with outside vendors, external auditors and other agencies and representatives related to County business.

Preference will be given to applicants with strong skills in Microsoft Office products such as Excel (special emphasis on spreadsheet and pivot table competency), Word, Power Point, etc.

Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas:

Local government, non-profit or public sector auditing;

Developing and implementing highly technical and complex audit work plans including audit strategies and timelines;

Utilizing multiple types of internal control audits (e.g. inventory controls, cash handling controls, contract compliance, purchase card and expense reimbursements, grants compliance, etc.);

Interpreting and evaluating the efficacy of internal controls, policies and procedures;

Implementing professional auditing standards particularly for government auditing; and/or a Master's degree in a related field.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to: Kane County Auditor or their designee

Directs Work of: Staff Auditor and Administrative Officer

EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Normal office equipment such as a desktop and/or laptop computer, peripherals such as a printer, telephone, copier, calculator, etc.
