BIOPROCESS TECHNICIAN (FERMENTATION)
Job Summary:
The Bioprocess Technician at Genesis Biosciences plays an important role in the day-to-day operation of the Fermentation Department, chemical processing, operation of pressure vessels and their support systems, and the production of probiotic microbes. Quality and purity of our product is extremely important; therefore, the Bioprocess Technician is responsible for sterility of equipment, tools, and surfaces to prevent cross-contamination within the process.
Responsibilities:
- Cleaning, sterilizing, and preparing equipment for microbiological fermentation; experience in Clean-In- Place (CIP) procedures, cGMP requirements, and general hygiene/sanitation is helpful with these tasks
- Performs Clean-Out-of-Place (COP) procedures; sterilizing equipment’s exterior surfaces and dismantling equipment to sterilize parts and inspecting upon reassembly
- Creates and blends chemical and nutrient ingredients on a large scale to begin the Fermentation Process; Chemical processing and/or chemical engineering experience is helpful with these tasks
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to accurately operate fermenters, centrifuges, and spray drying equipment
- Monitors microbial growth parameters, such as pH and oxygen levels, and adjusts equipment settings to maintain optimal cell growth
- Handles various chemical ingredients, some are corrosive materials, to maintain pH and prevent foaming during the Fermentation Process
- Collects probiotic spores in approved containers, performs weight validations, properly labels and transfers inventory to approved locations
- Ability to generate and complete batch records and compliance documentation in an accurate and timely manner
Requirements:
- Experience in food processing, chemical processing, fermentation, brewing, or working within an FDA regulated facility
- Operation of industrial equipment and possesses basic mechanical skills
- Ability to multi-task, attentive to details, and working within a compliance-driven department
- Operation of forklifts and able to lift up to 50 lb
- Able to work 12-hour shifts, 2-2-3 Continental Schedule
Experience/Education
- Degree in life sciences or technical certification in bioprocessing or related field helpful
- 2-3 years’ experience in fermentation, brewing, or chemical processing preferred
