Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible to manage farm division weekly goals for, but not limited to: breeding targets, farrowing targets, pigs shipped targets, production and financial targets
- Manage gestation, breeding, ESF (Electronic Sow Feeding), animal movement, and farrowing according to approved guidelines
- Manage, keep, communicate, and report accurate records on a daily basis for both production and financial data
- Responsible for placing all orders and maintaining current inventory and supplies order list (vaccines, semen, fuel, bedding, feed, etc.)
- Direct cleaning/bedding of farm and maintaining appropriate equipment, in compliance with NR and local, state, and federal regulations
- Maintain correct temperature/ventilation settings, and that all associated equipment is in full working order
- Ensure that all farm grounds, animal pens, facilities, equipment, etc. are routinely cleaned, maintained, and in working order
- Manage Period Close inventory, cost analysis, and cost control
- Develop and implement vision for constant improvement of key performance metrics including: sow herd and piglet survival rates, number of pigs weaned, farrowing rate, and pork quality
- Any other duties as assigned, requested, or directed by management/supervisor
Minimum Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Zootechnics, Agricultural Engineering, or a closely related field of study and two (2) years of experience as a Farm Manager, Animal Breeder or related role where required experience gained.
Experience Preferred
Also requires experience in the following:
- Maintenance of employee training program to ensure the safety of all team members;
- Management of all electronic sow feeding equipment in gestation and ensure proper animal training to that equipment; and
- Identification, care and treatment of sick sows and gilts as necessary; including post mortem analysis to determine cause of death.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
- May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.
- May need to pack sample product boxes of up to 50 lbs
- May need to access files, supplies and equipment.
- Work activity is in an office, open-partitioned, cubicle environment.
When in a plant environment:
- Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
- May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
- May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
- May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
- May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility.
