THE DISTRICT COURT The Second Judicial District Court covers all communities within Washoe County and is part of the judicial branch of government. The District Court occupies two courthouses located in downtown Reno. The General Jurisdiction’s historic courthouse proudly displays a copper dome lined with magnificent stained glass. POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under supervision of the Family Services Department Manager, performs complex and highly confidential case management work in the District Court Family Services Department. The Department oversees the following programs: Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Mediation, and the Family Peace Center. The Case Manager is involved in the review of referred court cases, assignment, supervision, and support and training of CASA volunteers. The Case Manager may assist with the implementation of new programs assigned to the Department.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Exercises direct supervision over CASA volunteers.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Serves as a knowledgeable resource for information regarding Second Judicial District Court policies, procedures, objectives, and operational functions.
Responds to inquiries regarding the CASA Program. Records and prioritizes incoming dependency cases for CASA assignments.
Maintains and updates the CASA case management database (Optima). Initiates contact with CASA volunteers to assess case progress and provide volunteer support.
Schedules events including court hearings, child and family team meetings, and attorney meetings related to dependency cases.
Attend all court hearings with the CASA volunteer and provide updates as needed.
Mediates disagreements between volunteers, social workers, foster parents, and/or others involved in assigned cases and attends team meetings as needed.
Works closely with the CASA Program Attorney and CASA volunteer, when necessary, in termination of parental rights cases.
Develops and implements CASA In-Service and Pre-Service training for volunteers.
Compiles monthly statistical reports for CASA. Works openly and closely with the Washoe CASA Foundation for recruitment, retention, and community awareness regarding CASA.
Makes recommendations and assists with implementation of program objectives, policies, and procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness.
Assists in special projects sponsored by CASA, Mediation, Family Peace Center, and other agencies.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Interviews potential candidates for the CASA position.

JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:
•Training development for adult learners.
- Conflict management techniques.
- Dependency court case flow.
- Personal computers and software including Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat Office products.
Skills to:
- Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment.
- Effectively communicate with various audiences.
Ability to:
- Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Work collaboratively with dependency team members and agencies.
- Learn the procedures and functions of the assigned position.
- Learn to explain, apply, and ensure compliance with the policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations pertaining to assigned Department.
- Meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
- Handle multiple concurrent projects and manage priorities and tasks.
- Operate virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework preferred in public administration, social work, criminal justice, or a related field.
Experience Three years of progressively responsible experience in case management including assessing information, making determinations and reporting findings in child welfare, court compliance, community resources or another related field.
Preferred Experience coordinating and supporting volunteers.
