POSITION SUMMARY

Demonstrate adaptability in evolving environments with a proactive and optimistic attitude while fulfilling teaching duties, which may include Veterinary Technology Assistant (VTA) and/or Veterinary Technician (Vet Tech) responsibilities. Display respect towards students by recognizing diverse learning styles and integrating this awareness into institutional engagements, fostering integrity, diversity, and transparent communication. Maintain a standard teaching load of fifteen credit hours per semester, which may include VTA coordinator release time. The coordination of the VTA program is a fundamental and required aspect of this role, governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coordinate VTA program including scheduling, animal procurement, and lab assistance.

2. Teach various courses related to the field of Veterinary medicine.

3. Lead and oversee the refinement of course content and curriculum development requirements.

4. Assist with departmental student organizations and activities.

5. Attend and assist with various departmental recruitment activities including high school visitation.

6. Work closely with other instructors and special programs and services within the college to determine placements, curriculum, and academic support.

7. Participate in course development, assessment, accreditation, and planning activities.

8. Be willing to teach online and/or blended courses.

9. Participate in appropriate departmental meetings and recruitment activities; serve on committees.

10. Assist students with academic advising.

11. Conduct placement and supervision of students in off-campus practicum.

12. Establish and maintain animal patients within the clinical setting in accordance with USDA standards.

13. Be willing to teach both day and evening classes at main and branch campuses. Weekend/holiday duties may occur.

14. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning.

15. Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission.

16. Fulfill additional contractual obligations detailed in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract, which include meeting tenure track criteria.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. CVT or DVM in Illinois or ability to obtain IL CVT or DVM license.

2. Three years minimum clinical experience.

3. Comfortable with appropriate technologies for instruction.

4. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.

2. Experience with online and/or course management software and power-point.

3. Experience in a teaching environment.

4. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

5. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Normal classroom physical demands.

2. Ability to move and lift animals, equipment and supplies up to 50lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Classroom teaching environment.

2. Laboratory teaching and occasional outdoor laboratory activities.
