The Opportunity
The position of Maintenance Technician serves our Toxicology business unit located in our Richmond, Virginia laboratory. The Maintenance Technician has an important role in the successful functioning of the facility, ensuring all systems are maintained, creating a safe and secure environment. The Maintenance Technician will work under the direct supervision of the Facilities Supervisor to maintain the overall physical building including all HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. The technician will work with a variety of departments to ensure the proper maintenance and safety procedures are implemented to safeguard staff, visitors, and property. Understanding and compliance with EH&S will also be a responsibility of this role.
What You’ll Work On
Cooperate with various laboratory departments and vendors/contractors including such functions as HVAC, security, vending, cleaning, grounds keeping, and others as required.
Assist with EH&S activities and ensure compliance with corporate requirements.
Provide Facility Maintenance, cleaning, and repair or both as needed and regularly scheduled basis throughout the Richmond VA facilities by conducting regular inspections of buildings and grounds making recommendations for improvements or repair.
Maintain documentation of repairs and preventative maintenance.
Work with the operations team and the Facilities Supervisor regarding construction projects and space planning.
Assist with preventative maintenance and testing of various aspects of the facility infrastructure to ensure continued reliable operation, including the security system, video cameras, fire and life safety systems, etc.
Follows all the company safety policies and procedures and attends all safety training related to the job.
Required Qualifications
Understanding of occupational hazards and standard safety practices
Able to operate power equipment, common hand and power tools, carpentry and electrical tools, ladders, cleaning equipment, and step stools
Experience with and knowledge of Employee Health & Safety compliance
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds on a regular basis
Able to work extended hours on evenings and weekends, as required
Must be able to wear personal protection equipment which includes gloves, when required
Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Working knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, safety procedures, and cleaning supplies and equipment
Able to work on multiple tasks as a team member and/or ability to operate as an individual contributor
Detail-orientated, self-motivated and available for flexible scheduling
Strong communication, problem-solving and motivational skills
Ability to communicate with transparency
Ability to maintain integrity and honesty at all times

The base pay for this position is $19.60 – $39.20 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
