Sailrite Enterprises, a GROWING locally owned company in Columbia City, Indiana, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a full-time Facility Janitor. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly environment in both our warehouse and office areas. In addition to cleaning duties, this role involves monitoring and managing janitorial supply inventory to ensure a well-stocked and efficient workplace. Previous experience in using and maintaining floor scrubbing equipment is a definite plus. Familiarity with proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals following safety protocols is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Cleaning and Maintenance:
- Perform daily cleaning tasks in office and warehouse areas, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and window cleaning.
- Ensure restrooms are kept clean, stocked, and sanitized regularly.
- Empty and properly dispose of trash and recycling.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of cleaning supply areas.
- Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies, using vacuum cleaners and shampooers as needed.
- Surface Disinfection:
- Utilize appropriate cleaning agents to disinfect surfaces and maintain a hygienic environment, especially during times of heightened health concerns.
- Adhere to safety protocols when handling and applying cleaning chemicals.
- Inventory Management:
- Monitor and maintain an accurate inventory of janitorial supplies, including cleaning agents, paper products, and other necessary items.
- Place orders for supplies as needed, ensuring that stock levels are adequate for daily operations.
- Equipment Management:
- Utilize and maintain floor scrubbing equipment to ensure effective and efficient cleaning of various floor surfaces.
- Maintain and store cleaning equipment in a safe and organized manner.
- Perform routine inspections of cleaning equipment and report any issues to the supervisor for prompt repair or replacement.
- Chemical Handling and Safety:
- Follow proper safety protocols when handling and storing cleaning chemicals.
- Ensure all cleaning agents are labeled correctly, and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are accessible.
- Report any spills or incidents involving chemicals immediately and follow established procedures for cleanup.
- Compliance with Safety Standards:
- Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a secure working environment.
- Make sure areas around exterior doors are clean and free of obstacles that might interfere with emergency exits.
- Identify potential safety or maintenance issues and communicate them to management.
- Communication:
- Collaborate with other staff members to address specific cleaning needs or requests.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding supply needs and potential issues.
- Flexibility:
- Be adaptable to changing priorities and willing to assist in other tasks as needed.
Job Qualifications
- A high school diploma is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of the use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
- Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work is strongly preferred.
- Experience in using and maintaining floor scrubbing equipment is a definite plus.
- Ability to follow safety guidelines and protocols.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Physically Capable of Standing / Walking for 8-Hour Shift.
- Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks and lift/move objects up to 60 lbs.
