Terms of Employment
Full time position - 260 days (depending on start date) 8 hours per day. Pay per Classified Salary Schedule - Category II ($18.29 - $27.92) to be determined by qualifications and experience. This position qualifies for benefits. The District provides its employees with a comprehensive benefits program including medical, life, and dental insurance. The District provides three medical plans for which it pays the full premium for employees, and a fourth option is a buy-up plan for which the district pays the majority of the premium. In addition, the District pays the full employee premium for dental insurance and life insurance. The District contributes to PERA on each employee's behalf and offers additional retirement savings options as well as optional supplemental insurance. Employees also receive paid time off. Worker's compensation and unemployment insurance are provided in accordance with State law. This position qualifies for paid leave: 4 annual leave days, 7 sick leave days and 15 vacation days (leave days will be prorated depending on start date.)
Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Facilities, to maintain school buildings in orderly, neat, safe, and operable condition.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs tasks to keep school buildings and building in orderly, neat, and clean condition such as clearing disposing of trash, cleaning bathrooms and floors, washing windows, dusting furniture and fixtures, and related tasks
- Performs tasks to maintain buildings in safe and operable condition, such as making minor repairs to property as requested, clearing snow and ice when needed, and related tasks
- Acts as a general handyman
- On call duty required
- Inspects equipment and facilities and recommends repair or replacement action to supervisor
- Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity
- Checks all building entrances/exits to ensure that they are working properly
- Opens and closes building and ensures that all doors and windows are closed and securely locked prior to leaving
- Maintains motors and other mechanical equipment and ensures that such equipment receives scheduled servicing
- Obtains equipment, tools and materials required for completion of assigned work.
- Maintains inventory of supplies, materials, equipment, and fuel, and places orders as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operations of maintenance tasks
- Inspects equipment and facilities and recommends repair or replacement action to supervisor
- Prepares and maintains records to document work and repairs as requested
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Technology and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Confidential Information
- Staff members shall not access, receive, transmit or retransmit material regarding
students, parents/guardians or district employees that is protected by confidentiality
laws - If material is not legally protected but is of a confidential or sensitive nature, great care
shall be taken to ensure that only those with a "need to know" are allowed access to
the material. Staff members shall handle all employee, student, and district records in
accordance with applicable district policies - Staff members who intentionally disclose student records, other confidential student information and/or district information may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination
Equipment
Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including saws, drills, routers, planers, sanders, jointers, and stationary power equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of fundamental tools, materials, practices, maintenance, methods and procedures in the carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and electrical trades
- Knowledge of building code conformance standards for HVAC, HVAC controls, carpentry, plumbing, electricity, electrical installation, and repair.
- Knowledge of occupational safety and health laws and regulations
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with others
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure
- Ability to describe orally or in writing maintenance or repair problems as needed
- Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve and resolve electrical or electricity issues
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work
Safety Requirements
- Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used.
- Wears appropriate safety gear.
Travel Requirements
Frequent travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- Ability to withstand heights and work in crawl spaces.
- Typical risks associated with using tools of the trade.
- Occasional strenuous physical work including lifting up top 75 lbs.
- Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
Qualifications Profile/Education/Experience
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Successful experience in building and grounds maintenance, and repair
- HVAC knowledge preferred.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation
