CYDC is a 501(c)(3) organization that serves families seeking support, families in crisis, and children experiencing homelessness or who are victims of physical and sexual abuse, neglect, and abandonment. We strive to deliver family education, preservation, residential, and reunification services that teach, heal, strengthen, and empower more than 900 children and families annually.

This position is responsible for the evaluation and upkeep of the physical campuses as well as the safety and sanitation of all property associated with Carolina Youth Development Center. The Facilities Manager is accountable for compliance with licensing requirements, regularly scheduled inspections and following all local, state and government regulations regarding the infrastructure. The position is responsible for maintaining a well-functioning, physically sound and aesthetically pleasing environment for the clients and staff of the agency.
- Develop, implement and maintain a schedule for providing preventative and on-going maintenance to all building and ground areas on campus and any leased buildings owned by CYDC. The duties include, but are not limited to, ensuring the maintenance of HVAC units, electrical fixtures and equipment, plumbing, windows, carpentry, drywall and painting through sub-contractors and/or CYDC staff.
- Respond to immediate needs and oversee the work to complete maintenance issues generated through the work order system.
- Supervise custodial position and develop and oversee a schedule to clean and maintain all CYDC buildings. This includes maintaining the ground areas on campus and Callen
- Collaborates with cooks at North Charleston and Callen Lacy campuses to manage purchases. Create and manage a checklist of food safety requirements and documentation of meals and snacks as needed.
5. Develop and maintain a cost effective inventory of maintenance supplies as well as vendor list of subcontracted professionals.
6. Perform weekly and monthly inspections ensuring that the corresponding paperwork is completed. Inspections include all areas relevant to annual relicensing..and reaccreditation- working with the Fire Marshal and DHEC (building internal and external structural safety, fire extinguishers, fire/burglar alarms and electrical appliances and equipment). Identification of substandard areas and generating corrective action plans within the maintenance schedule plan is required.
7. Ensure the completion of automotive maintenance on agency vehicles to include changing the oil, air filters, hoses, tires and other related items as needed.
8. Provide and support USDA required inspections and paperwork. Team with other staff members to provide a cohesive package to the USDA.
9. Support the Facilities and Maintenance Committee of the Board of Directors.
10. Oversee outside contractors to ensure required work is performed timely and on a satisfactory basis. Evaluate effectiveness and efficiencies of outside contractors to include periodically bidding out of services.
Major Challenges:- Analytical problem solving skills are necessary as this position requires working within budgetary guidelines while maintaining a reasonably high productivity level.
- Must be able to prioritize tasks in a multi-faceted work Must be able to plan specific short and long term job assignments on a weekly and monthly basis while managing crisis calls that arise frequently.
- Strategic skills required to develop long and short term plans to assist in budget development and building, implementing and managing facilities plans and strategies that includes sub-contractors and in-house maintenance.
Functional Knowledge: Advanced
Types of Skills: Upper level working knowledge of HVAC systems, basic electrical systems, basic plumbing, carpentry and automotive maintenance knowledge. Program Management and Project Management skills required. General Construction background and sub-contractor management experience needed.
Education and Specific Training: Two-year Associates degree preferred, depending on experience.
Experience: 5-10 years
Responsibility Level: Works without appreciable direction. Exercises latitude in determining objectives of the assignment.
Supervisory Responsibility: Custodial position, cook positions.
