GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Facilities Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the maintenance and operations of Rowan Helping Ministries. This position is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the facilities and overall campus to create a welcoming and secure environment for residents, clients, volunteers, and staff.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning and sanitizing common areas, restrooms, sleeping quarters, and other facilities to ensure a clean and hygienic environment.
- Assist with repairs and upkeep of facilities such as painting, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work, to address any issues promptly and maintain the safety and functionality of the premises.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and inviting campus environment, such as lawn and parking lot maintenance, trash removal, and minor landscaping.
- Conduct regular inspections of the premises to identify potential safety hazards or security concerns.
- Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies, toiletries, and other essential items, and coordinate with the Facilities Manager to ensure that stock levels are maintained at all times.
- Participate in emergency preparedness and response efforts, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, and other safety protocols, to ensure the well-being of shelter residents and staff in the event of an emergency.
- Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and external vendors or contractors to address facility-related issues and coordinate maintenance activities effectively.
- Perform other related work duties as may be assigned by the Facilities Manager or the Executive Director.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Should be able to stoop, lift up to 50 lbs., and consistently maneuver within the office area. This position will work primarily indoors and may have duties with repetitive motions. The person should be mobile to access various environments. Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 21 years old. Have a valid NC driver’s license. Forklift training certification is a plus. Must be compassionate and can work with diverse people and establish rapport with clients, volunteers, and general maintenance staff. Must effectively work as part of a team. Appropriate telephone, copier, and basic computer skills are needed. Must be able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
