The Welder / Steel Fabricator is responsible for the production of the carbon steel project work at our fabrication facility, helping to ensure timely delivery of finished products to our customers. Fitting, Welding, Cutting, Material Planning, and General Metal Shop Work are the primary responsibilities for this position.
Other responsibilities include working with the management team. The Welder coordinates to execute the project schedule. He / She will be responsible for reviewing fabrication drawings and coordinating material needs with foreman.
The Ideal Candidate will be proficient in multiple areas including welding processes such as: metal inert gas (MIG) welding, fitting, reading complex production drawings. Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding experience would be beneficial, but not necessary. Other important skills that could apply, but are not required include experience operating a laser cutting machine, performing sheet metal cutting/bending with shear and press brake, iron worker use and Final Cleanup / Finishing of Stainless Steel to produce either a smooth (sim. to 2B) or brushed finish (sim. to #4). The types of metals used in the welding process usually consist of mild carbon steel.
A minimum of 4-5 years working experience in a fabrication shop performing a leading role such as lead man/lead woman, is required.
You must have reliable transportation and be able to work at least 40 hours a week. Some overtime will be required.

Essential Duties:
Perform carbon & stainless steel steel fabrication.
Review shop fabrication documents and generate cut lists / task lists.
Work closely with design / production engineer(s) to optimize manufacturing processes.
Perform accurate in-process and final inspections to maintain product quality.
Perform MIG Welding - Light Gauge Tubing and Sheet Metal (Typically Less than 1/8" thickness - some 1/4"thick plus)
Use basic shop tools and equipment. (Table Saw, Chop Saw, Grinders, Sanders, Hand Tools, Etc.)
Ability to use (or learn to use) advanced shop fabrication equipment.
Assist Management Team to schedule tasks for the production schedule chart / daily task list.
Organize and assist / direct training programs.
Monitor production progress on a daily basis.
Utilizing the Production Schedule, responsible for having each job scheduled and planned through completion. Based on this control, the Welder must report to management what manpower is going to be required to complete projects on time.
Maintain an orderly file system for shop fabrication blue prints (Pre-Established).
Maintain Stock Inventory of Materials & Hardware needed to keep manufacturing going.
Perform Weekly / Monthly / Annual Maintenance on user Equipment.
Perform all other assigned tasks.
Education:
Minimum requirement:
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
- Must have related job / shop experience.
Experience / Requirements:
At least 5 years previous experience as a production welder; Experience in MIG welding role; Knowledge of Wood / Metal / Paint manufacturing processes is a plus.
Effective welding skills, with a strong focus on manufacturing processes.
Detail Oriented, Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
Reliable, Responsible, and be able to Work Independently.
Must have effective Written and Oral Communication skills.
Great organizational and interpersonal skills and a positive attitude are necessary.
High level of Integrity and Accountability.
Ability to Diagnose Malfunctioning Machinery is a Plus
Ability to Service Machinery is a Plus (Basic Repairs)
Qualified candidates will maintain a practical, common sense approach to completing all work while meeting the RDM Simple Standards Program commitment to QUALITY – SERVICE – TIMING.
Job Type: Full-time (Some overtime – 10-hour weeks)
Schedule: Monday to Friday - 8 hours ea. (Sometimes Saturday – Avoiding Sunday)

Salary: $20.00 to $24.00 /hour
Additional Compensation: Bonuses (When Business is Profitable, of course)
