This position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate.
The Extension Program Specialist I, under general supervision, develops programs, services, products, and/or processes. This position is needed to provide support to Harris County and surrounding counties through subject matter training for planning and developing educational outreach programs in 4-H Youth Development and serve as a liaison to the Texas Juvenile Prevention Center at Prairie View A&M University for joint implementation for the Wellness in Houston initiative.
Responsibilities:
- Effectively engage and mentor extension associates, program coordinators, and other relevant volunteers and personnel to improve and increase educational programming. Identify faculty/staff training needs and deliver or facilitate the delivery of training, employing train-the-trainer methods where appropriate. Compile training evaluations, conduct training session follow-up when appropriate.
- Work to effectively coordinate and integrate programs relevant to subject matter expertise. Engage with clientele and targeted audiences to prioritize issues and develop effective and relevant educational programs, products and/or services to meet the expectations of stakeholders. Develop effective learning environments for adult and youth audiences. Effectively utilize evaluations to assess program impacts. Produce programmatic reports which effectively document program impacts. Provide expertise for disciplinary, multi-disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary programming and projects of the agency.
- Contribute to grant proposals and execution of grants. Demonstrate effective working relationships with sponsors and donors, and secure and maintain support and resources for educational programs. Develop personal and organizational relationships with industry and other external groups to advance organizational goals. Contribute effectively to coordinated program efforts which extend beyond the department or unit. Coordinate and cooperate effectively with coworkers and partners to deliver effective educational programs and accomplish agency and departmental goals. Demonstrate commitment to the department, agency and discipline through service on committees and participation in activities that support these organizations. Establish a record of activity and recognition in professional and/or industry-related organizations that benefit Extension's goals.
- Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities, and committees and performs other duties inclusive as deemed necessary.
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Two years of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of word processing, database, presentation and spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree.
- Three to five years of experience in one or more of the following areas: extension service, research, training with volunteer/adult audiences or non-formal or formal teaching with K-12 audiences, related experience in volunteer development, youth/adolescent development, national and community service with target audiences, program development in limited-resource communities, juvenile facilities, children's human services, child health and nutrition, youth sports and recreation, college and career readiness, cross-cultural and multi-cultural education, family and consumer sciences, child and family studies, adult teaching and learning, juvenile justice, poverty studies, racial-ethnic studies.
- Knowledge of relevant learning and youth development theories & practices.
- Ability to cooperate with others and build collaborations or partnerships across organizations and institutions.
- Ability to conduct educational presentations in English and Spanish.
- Familiarity with juvenile and family law.
