Nature & Purpose of Position:Assisting Military-Affiliated students with VA educational benefits and the Hazlewood Act Waiver.
Provide responsive support to students with questions on VA education benefits and the Hazlewood Act Waiver.
Delivering exceptional student service to students – current, prospective, both in-person and over the phone.
Collaborate with the VRC to establish a vibrant Veteran community on campus though outreach events, meetings, and outings.
General office tasks such as scanning and shredding.
Cultivate positive and patient communication with military-connected students, employing effective problem-solving and optimism.
Directing veterans and their beneficiaries to pertinent campus resources such as Veterans Benefits Processing, Student Money Management, Academic Success Center, Food Pantry, and etc.
Conduct outreach services as needed to enhance support and awareness.
Handling phone inquires promptly and professionally.
Assist with the set-up and break-down of VRC events as needed.
Must have, at least 2-4 hour open blocks of time for scheduling Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm.
The candidate is a self-starter, pays attention to detail, accomplishes tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
Some work will be performed after hours or on weekends.
Ability to communicate and interact with others individually and in groups.
Must be using a VA Educational Benefit at Sam Houston State University
Pay as of now is 7.25 per hour because this is a Federal program and the Federal Min. Wage is 7.25 per hour
