Description
Plan, lead, direct and implement developmentally appropriate activities for school age children in a licensed before and after school program. Requires supervision of students and staff, planning of program activities and schedule, electronic sign in/out of students, management of small program budget, and excellent customer service skills with school staff and families. Performs work in a manner that ensures efficient use of district resources; promotes a positive and productive team environment for students, staff, and patrons of Spokane Public Schools.
  • HOURS PER DAY: 6.33
  • SCHOOL YEAR POSITION (193 DAYS / 10 MONTHS)
  • SPLIT HOURS: 6:30 to 8:50 a.m. and 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., with one additional hour of preparation time
  • ANTICIPATED START DATE: ASAP
  • Benefits--Medical/Dental/Vision through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) are provided for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year.
  • Additional benefits may include vacation, sick, personal days, and paid holidays.

Salary: Level 50 on the Express Site Director Salary Schedule. Experience increments depend on experience in a Washington Public School or licensed childcare center in the state of Washington. Complete STARS profile required.
Responsibilities
  1. Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate program for school age children before and after school.
  2. Maintain regular contact with Express program supervisor and building principal to exchange information on student, parent and facility needs.
  3. Ensure the site and its operation meets licensing standards developed by the State of Washington Department of Children Family, Youth (DCYF) for school age programs
  4. Assure proper care and maintenance of the facilities being used in the Express program
  5. Maintain child, staff and program records as required the district and DCYF
  6. Follow district procurement card and purchasing policy
  7. Maintain and track site allocated supply budget, purchase authorized supplies and maintain proper purchasing records
  8. Attend appropriate staff meetings and training sessions as assigned
  9. Coordinate and direct the work of program activity leaders
  10. Ability to use computers and technology related tools and applications, email, Microsoft Teams for work collaboration, virtual meeting platforms, cell phones and various mobile applications
  11. Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  1. Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the -essential functions listed above.
  2. Ability to complete and pass DCYF background check and fingerprinting
  3. Experience working with school-age children
  4. Initial 30-hour school age basic training is required upon hire. 10 hours of annual approved training is required by DCYF.
  5. Must create, update, and maintain MERIT (Electronic Workforce Registry) account
  6. Demonstration of interpersonal skills
  7. Ability to organize and program manage
  8. Demonstration in basic written, oral and electronic communication skills
  9. Ability to direct the work of activity leaders and volunteers
  10. Must have access to reliable transportation and ability to attend staff meetings and travel to purchase authorized supplies
  11. Ability to work closely and effectively with diverse groups of students, staff, and patrons of Spokane Public Schools while maintaining confidentiality.
  12. Ability to relate positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
  13. Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.
  14. Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the district.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience
  1. Completion of 30 or more college credits in any one hundred or above coursework. Candidates with a minimum of 12 college credits in any one hundred or above coursework and level may be considered with an approved education plan to reach the requirement of 30 college credits.
  2. Experience in an education, school age or early learning environment
Desirable Qualifications:
  1. Completion of 30 or more college credits in Education, Early Childhood Education, or Recreation
  2. Two years of management and/or supervisory experience in a related field
Licensing/Credential and/or Education Requirements
  1. Must be at least eighteen years of age
  2. Completion of 30 or more college credits in Education, Early Childhood Education, or Recreation is preferred. Candidate may substitute 12 to 30 credits in any one-hundred level or above college course work. Any college credits under 30 will require an approved education plan to achieve the 30-credit requirement.
  3. Must provide a negative TB test (within the last 12 months), CPR and First Aid Certificate, proof of MMR immunization, Immunity or certified exemption, and food handler permit (as defined and outlined in DCYF licensing standards) required upon hiring
  4. Must attend and complete DCYF orientation prior to leading a school age program

Physical Demands:
  1. Prolonged walking, standing, sitting, bending, squatting, stooping and other physical exertion required for an active and safe childcare and school environment. Working outdoors in safe but inclement weather may be required.

  2. Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays - Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement () as negotiated.

When employees meet plan requirements and retire, they are guaranteed a monthly benefit for the rest of their life from the employer-funded pension.
