Job Summary:

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity (MCHFH) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing home preservation, homeownership opportunities and building communities of hope in Monroe County, Pennsylvania. The Executive Director serves as the operational leader responsible for achieving MCHFH's mission and directing its day-to-day activities. This role involves collaboration with the Board of Directors to develop strategies, annual goals, and objectives to advance the organization's mission. Key responsibilities include fundraising, community engagement, financial management, strategic planning, staff leadership, and liaison with the Board of Directors.

Reporting to: Board of Directors

General Responsibilities:

  • The Executive Director role requires advanced skills in nonprofit management, operational oversight, fundraising, marketing, community engagement, and financial stewardship. The individual may serve as the primary resource in these areas within the organization.
  • The Executive Director regularly interacts with government leaders, organizational executives, major boards, and partners to negotiate, plan, and resolve issues. This role impacts the entire organization and the broader community at a policy level.
  • The Executive Director recommends funding for the organization, and with Board approval, handles financial transactions within the approved budget scope, and exercises significant discretion over expense and revenue transactions.
  • The Executive Director is responsible for leadership, strategic planning, and evaluating the organization's performance.
  • The Executive Director presents policy recommendations to the Board for review and approval and then is responsible to enact and ensure organizational compliance.
  • The Executive Director will also be responsible for duties and tasks that may be assigned by the Board of Directors at their discretion.

Experience Required:

The ideal candidate should have five years or more of relevant management-level experience in a leadership role within a nonprofit organization.

Education Requirement:

Bachelor's degree in related concentration preferred*

*Individuals with significant "worked experience" will be eligible for consideration as well.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to strategize and secure funding sources
  • Proficiency in raising public awareness and garnering community support
  • Financial leadership in resource allocation, budget adherence, and working knowledge of all fiscal Key Performance Indicators (as defined by the BOD)
  • Proficiency in organizing and executing activities to achieve organizational goals
  • Event Planning and management
  • Experience in adherence and management to policies and procedures of both the HFH Affiliate and the parent organization of HFHI.
  • Experience with management of volunteer boards, communities, and volunteers
  • Grant writing and grant award compliance
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Job Duties

General Administration:

  • Recommend policies to the Board and assist in policy formulation
  • Ensure implementation of Board-adopted policies
  • Chiefly responsible for public accountability, facility maintenance, and reporting
  • Ensure legal and contractual obligations are met
  • Ensure key rules and requirements set by Habitat for Humanity (International) are being adhered to in order to maintain good standing as an Affiliate

Financial Management and Development:

  • Review and administer organizational budgets
  • Oversee all financial operations
  • Provide overall direction and participate in fundraising activities
  • Regular review and understanding of all key financial status indicators, as determined by the Board, are known and reportable

Personnel:

  • Supervise and direct key staff members
  • Evaluate key staff performance
  • Exercise control and direction over personnel functions
  • Manage personnel decisions such as hiring or terminations

Home Preservation and Construction:

  • Develop and recommend construction actions with committees and management
  • Coordinate volunteers, paid personnel, and materials for dwelling construction and/or repair
  • Manage all relevant funding and grant sources, including compliance with funding requirements

Public Relations:

  • Interpret the organization's mission to the community
  • Engage in public relations programs through personal contact, literature, and media
  • Serve as the official ambassador of the organization to the community

Board Relations:

  • Develop and recommend long and short-range plans to the Board
  • Maintain relations with the Board and committees
  • Interpret industry trends and advise of shifts or relevant changes
  • Update Board of Directors on any organizational issues that arise from operations
  • Administer an orientation and training program for the Board

Community Relations:

  • Maintain effective client relations
  • Foster relationships with other professional and social service groups in the community
  • Serve on relevant community committees
  • Act as the primary contact/liaison with other organizations within Monroe County
  • Act as primary facilitator for community building efforts of Monroe County HFH
  • Collaborate with Affiliates of Habitat for Humanity within the state to identify best operating practices

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
