What We SeekWe are seeking a full-time, highly motivated junior partner/ senior associate attorney licensed in Illinois with experience in trust & estate planning and administration. Applicants must be detail-oriented and responsive, with strong writing and analytical skills, and an understanding of the federal and Illinois estate tax system. Desired but not required: an LL.M. in taxation, experience in: probate court experience, guardianship and special needs cases, representing small business owners, and residential real estate transactions. Advancement within the firm is dependent upon providing quality work more than new originations.
This is a great opportunity in a rapidly growing law firm that offers plenty of room for the right person to develop a strong practice and position within the firm. The successful candidate will be required to bill a minimum of 1500 hours per year. Candidates are eligible for bonuses for additional hours billed above this amount. Additional compensation in the form of a percentage of any new cases you bring into the firm is also available.
What You'll Do:
- Prepare comprehensive estate plans, using techniques to protect and preserve assets, reduce taxes and accomplish client's personal goals.
- Handle estate and trust administration from start to finish.
- Analyze trust and estate planning documents and advise clients with respect to trustees' powers and duties, dispositive provisions, beneficiary rights, and tax treatment of distributions.
- Travel to and attend Cook and Lake County Probate Court hearings.
- Collaborate with client's financial and insurance professionals.
- Handle consultations to convert leads to new clients.
- Provide quality customer service to clients, potential clients, and their parties.
- Attend CLE and other training events as needed to stay on top of changes in the legal community.
- Assist the managing attorney with seminar and webinar presentations and other speaking engagements as requested.
- Other tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- J.D. degree.
- Active admission to practice law in Illinois. Active license in Florida a plus.
- 5+ years' experience practicing law in the field of trusts & estates.
- Excellent written, verbal, and persuasive communication skills required.
- Highly developed time management, organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to multitask.
- Responsiveness to clients
- Research skills on tools such as Lexis, Checkpoint, Fastcase, IICLE, etc.
