POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Equipment Manager, the Equipment Technician performs tasks involving heavy equipment such as vehicle servicing; scheduled and unscheduled maintenance; and equipment diagnosis, repair, and inventorying. May perform other assigned tasks within the equipment team and provide additional jobsite support to the field as required.
Essential Functions
Equipment Servicing
- Works with the Assistant Equipment Manager and Equipment Administrator to build a service schedule and prioritize equipment based on jobsite need.
- Performs preventative maintenance on DAWSON owned equipment on and off the jobsites. Conducts services/inspections prior to equipment being sent to a DAWSON jobsite and when equipment returns from a DAWSON jobsite to ensure equipment is always in safe working order.
- Identifies services that require outside shop support and collaborates with the equipment team to schedule them.
Equipment Diagnosis
- Respond to broken and damaged equipment service orders per the schedule priority.
- Diagnose issues with equipment and trouble shoot to either fix or repair equipment which may include conducting research on parts or services that are required to fix each piece of equipment and recommend either fixing it in house or sending it to an outside shop based on severity, time and cost.
- Identify the cause of equipment failure and report to Assistant Equipment Manager or Equipment Administrator for appropriate billing and tracking.
Equipment Repair
- Conducts basic in-field repair such as weld repair, hose/seal replacement, electrical repair, and part installation.
- Works with approved mechanic shops to handle repair overages or deal with repairs outside of expertise or capability.
- Works with the Equipment Team to determine what can be handled in-field and what needs to be handled externally.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Minimum 3 years vehicle mechanic experience required; with a background in heavy equipment preferred.
- Certified on major brands of equipment such as Genie, Xtreme, John Deere or willing to earn certifications (company paid) required.
- Understands and adheres to safety and quality control requirements.
- Any combination of education & experience that demonstrates the knowledge & ability to perform the work.
- Ability to operate equipment for diagnostic and maintenance purposes.
- Ability to operate diagnostic equipment and read and comprehend equipment manual.
- Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, stand, crouch, kneel, lay on back for extended periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing, use equipment and tools properly and safely.
- Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
- Must maintain a clean driving record and be willing to be trained on vehicles and equipment including but not limited to cranes, forklifts, excavators, skid steers, CDL Vehicles etc.
- Able to travel up to 30% of the time.
- Willingness and ability to work 2nd shift (4 pm to midnight) as required.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- $30 - $40 per hour
- Annual Bonus; depends upon individual and company performance.
