Department Description This position is a member of the HIM Provider Advocate Team - EHR and Revenue Cycle Education. As a technical leader in clinical applications, this position applies advanced professional concepts and extensive clinical and industry knowledge to lead and/or work on medium to large projects of broad scope and complexity. Recognized expert in multiple Epic EHR clinical applications and voice recognition platforms. Responsibilities include providing leadership and serving as technical resource to the team; designing, developing, testing, building, implementing, and evaluating clinical documentation and clinical application systems for improvement in the organization. This includes participating in planning, development, training, implementation, and evaluation of systems to support clinical practice and provide ongoing program support. The team provides technical support for voice recognition users, including configuration, troubleshooting, and on-call support.
This position functions as technical leader with a high degree of knowledge and skills in the overall field with recognized expertise in specific areas. Requires frequent problem solving and analysis of unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources, functions with a high degree of autonomy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Epic certification in Inpatient, Ambulatory, or OpTime.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or a combination of experience, education ad/or training required.
  • Provider training experience that utilizes strong clinical knowledge and clinical workflow expertise
  • Strong experience with Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) build and configuration
  • Broadly encompassing and in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in Epic clinical applications with clinical documentation expertise
  • Advanced knowledge of operations, systems, functions, and workflow, including planning, design, development, build, implementation, user support, training, maintenance, quality assurance, system testing, and evaluation
  • Advanced analytical skills and expertise in clinical documentation and reporting, with the ability to apply metrics, plan and implement testing systems, collect, and analyze performance data, and produce substantive reports and analyses for management use
  • Ability to apply advanced problem-resolution skills to highly complex issues, quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner
  • Advanced organizational and project management skills, detail oriented, and ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, to convey highly technical information and instructions to all levels of clinical users and staff in a specific, clear, and concise manner
  • Advanced ability to serve as a technical leader and information resource, and to work collaboratively with key personnel and management, providing guidance and recommendations on systems, improvements, upgrades, and industry trends
  • Able to travel to Wisconsin to attend Epic certification training sessions
  • Able to work overtime and/or flexible hours as needed to meet committed project dates
  • Required to pass Epic certification exams in three attempts within three months of training date
Preferred Qualifications
  • RHIA, RHIT, or CCS credentials
  • Additional Epic certifications (beyond the required Inpatient , Ambulatory or OpTime
  • Master's degree in clinical healthcare field or equivalent preferred
  • Over three years experience in healthcare clinical practice environment including experience with healthcare information systems
  • Academic institution or large integrated health system experience

Department Description
The team is responsible for initial and ongoing operational Epic EHR provider training and working with providers and stakeholders to improve clinical documentation. This training supports coding/billing/CDI programs and provider efficiency using many Epic clinical and voice recognition applications. Target audience: new and existing faculty, fellows, residents, APPs, and 3rd/4th year medical students in all clinical and hospital settings.
The team delivers initial and ongoing provider training and clinical build to educate and optimize provider interaction with the following: clinical content, integration of clinical documentation applications, CAPD (computer assisted provider documentation), regulations, compliance, coding/billing, clinical documentation integrity, revenue integrity, Epic EHR knowledge/proficiency, and optimization. This position supports provider efficiency and satisfaction, patient care, reimbursement, quality, data analytics, reporting, analysis and build.
The program provides Epic and voice recognition applications training based on the provider role and clinical setting. This includes: access and technical training, enhancing provider clinical documentation tools, system optimization, clinical documentation analysis and template build, and partnering with coding/revenue integrity managers on efforts that support CDI and coding workflows.
The Provider Advocate Team has certification and expertise in Epic clinical applications used by providers (Inpatient, Ambulatory, ASAP, OpTime, Anesthesia, Stork, Beacon, Kaleidoscope, Radiant, and more), plus expertise in voice recognition integration. This integrated approach allows the team to support all areas of focus during provider engagement. They build ongoing relationships with these providers and partner with other subject matter experts to address needs and concerns. The team brings a "one stop" comprehensive experience to the providers.
A key focus of this program is integrating the right clinical applications and tools to optimize clinical documentation, provide workflow improvement, and increase provider satisfaction.
