A DAY IN THE LIFE
Enthalpy Analytical, a part of the larger organization, Montrose Environmental Group, is comprised of over 9 laboratories servicing air, water, soil, and toxicology testing. Regulations drive the need for our services, but our unique capabilities allow us to add value to clients beyond environmental compliance.
Our Durham, NC laboratory is currently seeking a Full-Time GC/MS Laboratory Technician who will be responsible for performing tasks required to meet the expectations of our clients, in addition to efficiently and profitably generating defensible data in a timely manner. These tasks will be performed under the direction of a Group Leader.
- Preparation of samples for GC/MS analysis
- Determining the volume of samples
- Maintaining clean laboratory areas
- Maintaining canister and controller inventory
- Maintaining organized records of canister cleaning, leak checks and pressurization
- Overhead projects designed to improve efficiency of, or accuracy of tasks
- Sample extractions
- Cleaning of laboratory glassware
- Assisting the Group Leaders and analysts in acquiring and inventorying consumables, standards, and parts for instrumentation
- Comply with Enthalpy’s Quality Assurance Program and other policies
- Comply with Enthalpy’s Health and Safety Plan
- Other duties as assigned by the Group Leader or Lab Director
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, associate's or Bachelor's degree in a scientific field preferred
- Prior experience helpful but not required as this is an entry level position
- Strong attention to detail
- Good communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Comfortable using wrenches
- Ability to perform physically demanding work such as moving and lifting equipment, standing for long periods of time, etc.
- Analytical and numerical skills: ability to perform mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) in different units of measurement; ability to use concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios
- Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel spreadsheets
