The Environmental Specialist II Performs instrument calibration. Maintains and orders sampling and laboratory equipment and supplies as needed. Trains other divisional personnel in proper sampling techniques. Prepares sampling documentation, chain of custody and other related reports on field activities. Applicants should be able to obtain Industrial Pretreatment C voluntary license within 12 months of hire. Participates in public outreach events related to water quality and conservation. Required to participate in periodic emergency response duty.
Representative Duties
- Performs inspections of regulated facilities.
- Conducts investigations of suspected non-compliance and documents investigations, maintains related records and prepares reports as required.
- Perform sampling for all phases of environmental monitoring; i.e., water, wastewater, soil, or air.
- Drafts letters based on inspection results and review of reports.
- Evaluates permit applications and county program surveys for conformance with requirements and ecological and environmental effects.
- Tracks progress of environmental program efforts and works with contractors, program customers and permittees.
- Advises the general public regarding environmental issues.
- Frequent public contact and interaction with County agencies, local jurisdictions and state and federal agencies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree and major course work in Environmental or Civil Engineering, the natural sciences, or a related field and one year of environmental experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant education or experience on a year for year basis.
Must be able to perform job related tasks, which would include but not be limited to: climbing, walking over uneven ground, lifting up to 50 pounds, exposure to dust and fumes, and occasional exposure to adverse weather.
Must be possess or be able to acquire Florida Driver's License upon hire.
Preferences
- Maintenance Management software such as Maximo
- Industrial Pretreatment C License
- Experience with GIS Software

Working Hours: Monday – Friday / 7:30am – 4:00pm

Educational Requirements
