Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a professional environmental health position providing technical, advisory, coordinating, and investigative skills, in Environmental Public Health. These programs may include, but not limited to the Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal (OSTDS) program, Food Hygiene, Sanitary Nuisance Investigations, Swimming Pools, Water Well Construction, Mobile Home/RV Parks, Migrant Labor, Tanning, Group Care, and Beach Monitoring.
Conducts site evaluations for OSTDS permits using prescribed policies and procedures, writes OSTDS permits, inspects OSTDS installations and approves installations based on Chapter 64E-6 FAC. Performs routine OSTDS operating permits and service permit inspections.
Conducts inspections of Public Swimming Pools and Bathing Places as required by state or local code for all regulated facilities in the county. This includes but not limited to inspection and overview of construction and operation of facilities used for public swimming and bathing such as swimming polls, spa pools, and wading pools serving places like hotels, motels, condominiums, apartment buildings, mobile home parks, and schools as well as water recreation attractions and freshwater bathing areas open to the public for recreation
Assisting with conducting notifiable disease surveillance, investigation, and reporting: Interviews patients by telephone, or when necessary, conducts field visits for interviews; Contacts physician offices, labs, hospitals and clients in gathering information to complete a case report; Provides basic information on reporting to physician office or clinics when appropriate; Collects specimens in the field when necessary; Assists with reportable disease outbreaks/epidemics.
Investigates citizen complaints on water, sewage, food, or other related environmental issues affecting community hygiene. Prepares preliminary enforcement actions for non-compliance by issuance of Notice of Violation and Notice of Intended Administrative Actions.
Conducts field inspections and complaint investigations in the Food Hygiene, Tanning, Mobile Home/RV Park, Migrant Labor, and Group Care programs according to state guidelines and inspection frequencies as assigned by supervisor. Assures all information necessary for annual billing and invoicing is made available to staff handling those duties.
Conducts field inspections, performs plan reviews, issues permit, collect water samples, and monitors Limited Use Public Water Systems and water well constructions. Investigates public drinking water complaints.
Performs beach sampling for Healthy Beaches Program. Transports samples to laboratory, and data enters results into the Healthy Beaches Program Website.
Provides backup to front desk when needed which includes but is not limited to reviewing of septic, well, and other the Environmental Public Health paperwork received at front counter of for completeness. Data enters file information and inspection reports, maintains records and files of inspections, investigation, test, and reports in an organized and professional manner utilizing the Environmental Health Database (EDH) and other automated programs.
Perform travel in conjunction with the above duties; provide technical assistance, counseling, and direct services to clients, attends staff meetings and training, conferences, and certification seminars..
Ensures the integrity/confidentiality of all data sets in the program; complies with the information security protocols and procedures (DOHP 50-10-16); security and privacy of client information is maintained; disclosure of confidential information is released only after proper authorization has been obtained; and information that is exempt from public record disclosure is maintained in a confidential manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.

  1. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to bend, stoop, lift 50 pounds, basic computer skills, communication skills, ability to operate technical equipment, mathematic skills, ability to read site and floor plans, general office skills, time management skills, organizational skills, must be able to work outdoors in all condition. OSTDS certification required after 6 months of employment.

Qualifications: 381.0101(4)(e), Florida Statutes: Applicants shall have graduated from an accredited 4-year college or university with a degree or major coursework in public health, environmental health, environmental science, or a physical or biological science. Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions, must be able to lift access lids that are 50lbs or more. Valid Driver's License
