Why does the job exist?
This position will provide guidance and support to the Liquid Waste Assistance Program.
How does it get done?
- Train and advise staff and management concerning site evaluations, permitting, field inspections, and investigations
- Conduct district or statewide file audits
- Provide periodic management reports
- Coordinate and direct liquid waste related enforcement activities such as drafting and reviewing Notices of Violation, investigation reports, file chronologies, permit denials and cancellations,
- Maintain electronic files, worksheets, databases, and various mandatory qualification lists
- Update program webpage and manage electronic data
- Oversee technical product and plan reviews
- Present recommendations on policy directives to staff
- Advise management on potential policy and regulatory changes
- Offer training material, newsletters, and other communication publications for the public, staff, and management

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, or Engineering and five (5) years of experience in public/environmental health, environmental science, Air Quality Management, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Hazardous Waste Management, Wildlife Management, and/or Water Resources. Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Work is performed in both an office setting and outdoors with considerable travel to field locations to permit, inspect, investigate, or enforce Liquid Waste Regulations. This position has extensive daily, public contact. The primary work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Occasional weekend work may be required.
