As an Environmental Planner based in Austin, TX, you'll use your skills and experience to support a Project Office and the NEPA planning practice work statewide, with an emphasis in Texas.

As a member of a supportive team of environmental professionals, you will help advance projects through environmental planning phases, including conducting analyses in compliance with state and federal regulations such as NEPA, ESA, CAA, CWA, NHPA, TAC and other applicable regulations. You'll have the opportunity to directly work with clients and work with teams across Texas and throughout the nation.

The successful candidate must be co-located in the project office located in Austin, TX with our client a minimum of 2 days per week, demonstrate solid technical writing skills, have an understanding of environmental compliance and NEPA documents, demonstrate excellent organizational skills as well as an ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. 

Responsibilities include:

• Serve as the environmental/NEPA planner for urban and regional transportation projects
• Maintain and grow relationships with our regional and local clients
• Work directly with clients and deliver superior service
• Work on multiple, simultaneous projects on various topics and complexity
• Work with project managers, scientists, planners, engineers, and community involvement specialists in the preparation of technical studies and public and agency communications in preparing complex environmental studies

Types of work assignments:

• Environmental Planner for Public Involvement activities and NEPA documents
• Assist in the development of scope, schedule, and fee estimates for transportation projects
• Work with project managers and technical staff on the processes of developing and running effective Public Involvement events
• Work with project managers and technical staff on the preparation of NEPA documents, including Categorical Exclusions (CEs), Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs)
• Work with project managers and technical staff on special studies such as Section 4(f), Section 7 ESA, permitting, or other regulations

• Bachelor's degree in urban or regional planning, geography, biology, or related field
• Understanding of and experience with public involvement and environmental compliance processes for transportation infrastructure projects in Texas
• 2 to 5 years of experience in transportation-related work
• Ability to work in a multi-discipline, client-facing project office (Austin area) 2-days per week, minimum
• Exceptional writing and verbal skills, and ability to work in a collaborative team internally and externally
• Knowledge of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements and Public Involvement best management practices
• Experience interacting with clients, project managers, and project teams to communicate findings
• Ability to manage your time and workload effectively
• Ability to produce high quality work products that meet and exceed client expectations
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) software
• Proficiency in ArcGIS required

• Ability to work remotely, as needed
• Ability to occasionally travel locally and nationally to support project work
• Valid driver's license and safe driving record
• TxDOT precertification's are a plus
