What we want
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist II, under general supervision, provides specialized knowledge in the operation and support of assigned area within an environmental safety program. Prepares reports for distribution outside of department, to include those to the State. Acts independently ensuring work complies with program procedures.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Associates degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four years of related experience.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Essential Duties/Tasks:
  • Assessments and Inspections - Performs assessments and inspections in accordance with the Texas A&M Environmental Health and Safety programs under supervisor guidance. May require operating a University vehicle to complete duties. Assist with lab safety and building inspections as well as required equipment assessments and inspections (fire extinguisher, automated external defibrillators, emergency phones, eye wash, safety shower, etc.). Provides advice and technical guidance, including corrective action. Perform preventive maintenance on fire hydrants, fire department connections and equipment in fire pump rooms.
  • Recordkeeping and Data Management - Prepares and maintains records and reports pertaining to assigned duties. Assists with public health initiatives, to include pandemic testing, case management and education. Maintains databases for all inspections and oversees inventory for fire alarms, drones, AEDs and first aid supplies.
  • Training - Reviews training curriculum to ensure compliance with applicable standards. Develops and implements safety education and awareness programs for designated students and/or staff. Documents training classes and provides records to TrainTraq Administrator when necessary.
  • General - Conducts incident investigations for events and accidents and develops appropriate response measures; may require operating a University vehicle to complete duties. Responds with other EHS personnel to emergencies and assists emergency responders as needed. Responds to complaints regarding Environmental Health and Safety issues by interacting and communicating effectively with a varied population of students, faculty, and staff. Manages Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Hazardous Materials Management - Assists with management of campus hazardous materials to include pickup, storage and disposal.
  • Other Duties - Performs other duties as assigned. Provides advice and technical guidance, including corrective action.
