Making your next move count
This is an on-the-floor (high visibility/floor presence) position that requires an individual to be assertive but friendly, energetic, and genuinely curious about learning and applying EHS best practices. The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist position will provide technical and professional support services to the operation and service facilities with guidance from the QEHS Manager. Design and deliver training perform job hazard analysis, ergonomic evaluations and perform workplace safety and environmental inspections.
Main tasks and responsibilities
• Maintaining facility training calendar and training records per OSHA requirements. Facilitating appropriate internal facility safety training using appropriate training materials (hands-on, Google Slide, props, etc.) as scheduled.
• Implementing written EHS programs and company safety policies aligned with Federal & State requirements (e.g., OSHA, EPA, or the respective State agencies). Administering the local hearing conservation program per OSHA regulatory requirements. Maintaining and administering the facility's written contractor safety manual. Obtaining and maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of EHS standards and Workers' Comp requirements.
• Performing Ergonomics evaluations and give recommendations for improvements.
• Working directly with leadership to ensure facility monthly safety inspections are completed. Making recommendations to remedy noted deficiencies.
• Providing internal support for workers' compensation cases. Acting as facility safety contact for work comp claims questions, interfacing with insurance adjusters, medical professionals, and injured workers.
• Administering hands-on guidance to facility managers & supervisors regarding incident reporting/investigation programs to ensure company standards and processes are met.
• Promoting a positive safety culture by developing and creating documents in Google Suite to support positive employee communications & data delivery, such as video tutorials, posters, mailings, team activities, and Safety news.
• Collaborating with the leadership team to lead campus-wide safety initiatives.
• Serve as chair for safety committee meetings and partnering up with HR on driving wellness initiatives.
• Facilitating new hire safety onboarding for new employees.
• Must obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification and be willing and capable of providing first aid care to others.
• Coaching and mentoring all levels of the organization in EHS practices.
What you'll need to succeed
• Degree or equivalent experience in occupational environmental, health, and Safety.
• Experience in the Occupational Safety, Health, or EHS department in the manufacturing industry is preferred.
• Preference is given to those currently holding CSP (Certified Safety Professional) credentials
• Knowledge of EPA standards is preferred
• Effective written and verbal Communicate skills.
• Possess knowledge and skills to interpret regulations, permits, and other technical data.
• Maintain annual HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification.
• Able to attend off-site training courses as necessary.
• Maintain certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
• Proficiency in Google Suite required (Slide, Sheet and Doc).
• Ability to work with others or alone to solve complex human or environmental issues.
• Ability to read and comprehend federal and state regulations.
• Ability to apply mathematical principles to determine quantifiable results.
• Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
• Identifies hazards and resolves workplace safety problems promptly
• Seeks feedback to improve performance and exhibits an ability to learn and apply new skills.
• Inspires and motivates others to work safely, shows strong enthusiasm for workplace safety.
