Role Description:
Eberhard Manufacturing, a subsidiary of The Eastern Company, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager. The EHS Manager develops, implements, and oversees Eberhard's environmental, health, and Safety programs. They are responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, promoting a safe and healthy work environment, and minimizing environmental impact. This position will be hands-on, engaging stakeholders from the shop floor through executive leadership. The EHS Manager will collaborate with various departments and subsidiaries of The Eastern Company to identify and mitigate risks, develop safety policies, and drive continuous improvement in EHS performance.
- Lead the EHS regulatory compliance and standards for Eberhard, including understanding regulatory requirements for the company, developing, and implementing standards to ensure compliance, and interpreting changes to the law/keeping the organization ahead of any legal risk. Stay current with (OSHA, EPA, local, state, and federal) environmental, health, and Safety regulations.
- Continuously assess Eberhard for EHS risks, inspect facilities, develop policies and schedules, and assess work environments.
- Monitor policies and programs and drive towards improved outcomes.
- Enhance the safety culture of Eberhard through leading a safety team, developing and delivering safety training, partnering with Operations and other departments on safety initiatives, and assisting in creating safety solutions that benefit associates.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety incidents, inspections, and training records. Build and maintain emergency response plans and procedures. Generate regular reports on EHS performance and trends for management review. Analyze EHS data to identify trends, areas of improvement, and best practices.
- Responsible for developing safety reporting for all Eastern reporting + Eastern safety committee divisions. This will include being skilled in collaboration, accuracy, and timeliness with deadlines.
- Develop and implement environmental programs to reduce the organization's environmental impact. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to implement sustainable practices and improve resource efficiency. Develop and implement strategies to ensure compliance with applicable ISO 14001 standards.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with leaders and associates to foster mutual respect and trust, resulting in a strong EHS culture.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct drills and exercises to prepare associates for various emergencies.
- Coordinate with local emergency services and agencies as needed.
- Participate in industry associations and professional networks to stay informed about EHS developments.
- Bachelor's degree with 5+ years' experience in EHS leadership, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Strong understanding of EHS, regulations, frameworks, standards, and industry best practices.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities, including experiences producing EHS reports, influence and create a compelling safety culture.
- Analytical capabilities with the ability to assess data, identify trends and metrics to drive informed decision-making, and implement improvements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel to analyze and present EHS data effectively.
- Experience with ISO 14001:2015
- Master's degree.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) are advantageous.
