Job description


The district engineer is responsible for the regulatory oversight of community public water supplies as defined by the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act, 1976 PA 399, as amended (SDWA). The district engineer makes decisions concerning engineering concept and design, operation, and maintenance of community public water supplies, as those decisions relate to public health and the administration of the SDWA. The district engineer serves as the compliance and information contact of the assigned community water supplies. The district engineer reviews applications for permits before the Senior Licensed Engineer or District Supervisor, who is a licensed engineer, issues the permit.
Position Description - Environmental Engineer 9-P11
This position serves as the senior licensed district engineer for the Drinking Water and Environmental Health Division (DWEHD). The senior level district engineer is required to be a Licensed Professional Engineer and is responsible for the review, approval, and issuance of construction permits for water supply facilities. As a licensed professional engineer, this person is tasked with the regulatory oversight of community public water supplies as defined by the Michigan Safe Drinking Water, Act 1976 PA 399, as amended (SDWA) within the assigned geographic area. The senior level district engineer is the primary contact with community water supplies to fulfill these requirements. The senior level district engineer reviews non-licensed district engineer work products, provides licensed engineer approvals, and issues construction permits for these non-licensed district staff.
Position Description - Environmental Engineer Lcnd 12
The work location of this position will be the Warren District Office. However, the selected candidate may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule (combination of remote and in-person) or a fully remote work schedule (with occasional travel to their official work location). Employees approved for schedules that include remote work must complete that work within Michigan. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed. When working remote, employees must use a designated workspace that is safe and professionally appropriate, allows for privacy, minimizes distractions, and includes secure internet access. Details regarding work location and schedule options for this position may be discussed during the interview process.Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering.
Experience
Environmental Engineer 9
No specific type or amount is required.
Environmental Engineer 10
One year of professional Environmental Engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer 9.
Environmental Engineer P11
Two years of professional Environmental Engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer, including one year equivalent to Environmental Engineer 10.
Environmental Engineer 12
Three years of professional Environmental Engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer, including one year equivalent to an Environmental Engineer P11.
