Job description

This position serves as a staff specialist who manages and oversees the federal Auto and Light Duty Truck Surface Coating National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) program for the State of Michigan. The Auto and Light Duty Truck Surface Coating NESHAP is a set of complex federal regulations applicable primarily in the Automobile Manufacturing Industry. Responsibilities include development of guidance for staff to ensure statewide consistency, providing engineering and technical support and assistance to Field Operation and Lansing staff on the Auto and Light Duty Truck Surface Coating NESHAP, and related issues. This position also serves as a statewide engineering specialist on the interrelationship of the Auto and Light Duty Truck Surface Coating NESHAP and other air quality regulations pertaining to Michigan's automobile manufacturing plants. The person in this position must have thorough knowledge of, and have the ability to interpret and apply, existing and proposed federal and state air quality regulations regarding automobile and light duty truck manufacturing processes. Also, this position independently conducts the engineering and technical review, development, and issuance of assigned Renewable Operating Permits in the District; conducts inspections, reviews, and evaluates engineering design, evaluates technical data for compliance; determines the need for appropriate civil and criminal enforcement action; and integrates these activities appropriately with other EGLE divisions, the USEPA, state and local agencies, industrial contact, and the public. This position covers sources in the Lansing, Southeast Michigan and Detroit Field Offices and will get direction from the District Supervisors in each of the offices.
Position Description

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering.

Experience
Four years of experience equivalent to an Environmental Engineer, including two years equivalent to an Environmental Engineer P11 or one year equivalent to an Environmental Engineer 12 or Environmental Engineer Licensed 12.
