Project Overview:
- Develops and administers mandated programs.
- Develops quality assurance and quality control mechanisms to evaluate safety and health program effectiveness.
- Develops and conducts mandatory safety and health training programs.
- Reviews accidents and occupational illnesses and evaluates any trends.
Job Functions & Responsibilities:
- Develops and administers mandated programs.
- Conducts extensive field visits, on-site inspections, accident investigations, safety training, and awareness programs.
- Determines applicability of safety and health standards to company operations.
- Ensures compliance with mandatory Federal, State and company safety and health requirement.
- Assists with implementation of safety and health initiatives
- Develops quality assurance and quality control mechanisms to evaluate safety and health program effectiveness.
- Monitors compliance with company safety and health policies and procedures.
- Requests review from company managers for periodic updates and revises policies and procedures, as necessary.
- Participates in the review process to ensure compatibility of company safety and health policies and procedures with agency operating procedure.
- Develops and conducts mandatory safety and health training programs.
- Advises management regarding the need for safety and health related training programs.
- Coordinates safety and health training activities with company management and other agencies and organizations.
- Reviews accidents and occupational illnesses and evaluates any trends.
- Assists local company supervision with accident investigation, including reviewing corrective actions.
- Reviews local trends and makes recommendations to company supervision and management.
- Maintains data bases as directed by company management.
Skills:
- Knowledge of practices in utility/ maritime or similar industries and work with EHS staff so as to accomplish environmental health and safety components of larger, multi-disciplinary tasks.
- Knowledge of NYSDEC, Federal EPA regulations, OSHA, PESH and NYSDOL is preferred.
- Ability to communicate complex regulations and related EHS programs to management and staff is required.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, as well as strong writing skills are required.
- Strong computer skills: i.e., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (additional software programs will also be utilized).
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelors degree in Health and Safety, Biological Science, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
- 5 years of experience in a related H& S position.
