JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
The Accounts Receivable Clerk ensures processing of customer payments are completed in a manner that promotes efficiency, accuracy and professionalism. Compute, classify, and record numerical data to keep financial records complete. Perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. Check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to business transactions recorded. Facilitates accurate communications with commercial lease tenants and ensures adherence to federal, state and local laws governing handling of commercial leases.

- Operates computers programmed with accounting software to record, store and analyze information.
- Checks incoming documents for accuracy, duplication and legitimacy, then ensures correct entry, mathematical accuracy and proper codes.
- Prepare, Post, verify and record customer payments and transactions related to Accounts Receivable.
- Create invoices according to company practices and submit to requestor or customer (as requested).
- Create reports regarding current status of customer accounts as requested.
- Uses reports and other accounting information to identify delinquent accounts and communicate same to correct senior management team member to determine correct course of action. Assists in implementation of action when necessary.
- Assist in creating monthly statements.
- Complies with federal, state and company policies, procedures and regulations.
- Notes and reports discrepancies found in records to staff accountant or controller for follow up.
- Assist accounts payable duties as needed.
- Assist in other accounting department duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong interest in accounting, extremely analytical, and must be a fast learner
- Proficiency Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Proficiency in Quickbooks a plus
- Ability to handle fiscal information with sensitivity and integrity
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to meet deadlines while multi-tasking
- Ability to work both independently and in a team
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Data Entry experience required, accounting data entry a plus
- Be detailed oriented and energetic
Work Environment
This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
Required Education and Experience
- Microsoft Office: Intermediate
- WPM 45-55
- 10-key 8k-9k keystrokes
- 90% accuracy
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education and Experience
- Accounting: 1-2 years
- QuickBooks: 1-2 years
- Commercial Lease: 1 year
Salary
- $18-$20 per hour, based on experience.
