BHC Consultants is a consulting engineering, planning, and building code and construction compliance firm with offices in Seattle, Tacoma, and Bellingham.  We are looking for a full-time Engineering Technician/Construction Inspector.

BHC is a growing firm with a significant backlog of municipal consulting services contracts for cities, counties, and special purpose districts in the Northwest, supported primarily by Western Washington clients.  We are proud to be an employee-owned and managed consulting firm committed to the development and retention of our employees within a positive, collaborative, and challenging work environment.  We are committed to a healthy work-life balance for all staff and offer the flexibility to achieve that balance.

GENERAL SUMMARY

  • Works directly with construction contractors, engineers, and project owners to verify compliance with contract requirements.
  • Independently coordinates schedules with BHC, project owner, and contractor staff.

  • Timely completes and submits daily observation reports for designated project(s).
  • Documents deviations and changes on construction drawings to record as-constructed conditions, and prepares construction record drawings together with engineering and drafting staff.
  • Provides in-office engineering support with preparing and editing spreadsheets, cost estimates, drawings, specifications, permit applications and reports to support water, surface water and wastewater utility studies, evaluations, engineering reports, comprehensive plans, and review of developer plans
  • Demonstrates adept communication skills essential for effectively interacting with and representing project owners and contractors.
  • Engages seamlessly with colleagues, the public, project owners, and contractors, fostering productive working relationships.
  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of and adheres strictly to all site safety protocols and maintains a safe work environment.

 SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS

  • Interprets drawing and specifications to communicate requirements and observed deviations from specified requirements with contractors to ensure compliance with requirements and regulations governing construction.
  • Prepares sketches of and takes quality photos of construction installations that deviate from drawings and records those changes on record drawings.
  • May be required to work with multiple jurisdiction and client documentation software systems (i.e. Accela, SmartGov etc.) for input and tracking of inspection records and notation.  Training will be provided on the systems as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree is helpful, but not required.
  • 2+ years in engineering, construction observation/inspection, utility construction, or related role.
  • Some combination of education and practical experience with consulting services, water, sewer, and stormwater utility operations or maintenance, construction inspection, construction management, construction, or other construction or civil or mechanical engineering related fields is needed to be successful in this role.
