A 15% salary uplift is provided on top of base salary for positions that are worked in New York City or San Francisco, which is subject to change depending on market conditions.).

Project Overview:
Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.
The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.
The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and Amentum. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.
This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30am to 5:00pm. Some days may require reporting and working from an in-town Richland Office. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work night shift (5:30pm to 4:00am) and weekends as needed.
Position Summary:
Assigned to the Construction organization as a Survey Technician (ST), responsible for providing field and office support as required to the construction survey team. The ST reports directly to the Survey Engineer/Party Chief (PC). The ST interprets design drawings and specifications to determine associated commodities and equipment locations and provides support to his/her assigned field survey team in support of the civil, structural, mechanical, and piping installations in the work area.
Candidate must complete security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check. All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.
Responsibilities:
The Survey Technician duties include, but not limited to, the following:
- Provide Construction Survey support to the PC and Project Lead Surveyor.
- Support the survey team’s implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs.
- Assist the PC with the accurate layout of construction work, recordation of field data according to job specifications and appropriate methods of performing survey activities.
- Perform duties of a Rod Person and/or Instrument Person on a direct-hire survey crew; operates the survey instrument(s), rod, staff, GNSS rover, and other survey implements as required in accordance with Bechtel survey procedures.
- Perform other duties as required in support of construction layout, laser scanning or other survey activities, including substituting for the PC during his/her absence.
- Ensures that all survey equipment is in good working order and that instruments are properly transported.
- Assist the PC in providing support to both Field Engineering and Field Supervision.
- Assist the PC to develop and maintain survey data.
- Performs Calibration Baseline checks of survey instruments.
- Supports the administration of the survey work request program.
- Assist the PC, provide civil project completion documentation including "As-Built" records.
- Assist in performing verifications of subcontract survey work.
Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications:
- Engineering/Technical degree and at least 1 year experience in heavy construction/industrial surveying, with modern instruments and software or, in lieu of a degree, 7 years of directly related experience.
- Must possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
- Multi-disciplined survey experience.
- Knowledge of construction survey principles.
- Demonstrated ability to always maintain a safe work ethic and work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with survey team members, other departments, contractors, and survey functional management.
- Self-starter, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and able to work on multiple work fronts, with excellent problem-solving ability.
- Displays effective communications skills crucial to understanding instructions and plans in a clear and concise manner.
- Demonstrated experience with Robotic Total Stations, Auto and Digital Levels & GNSS survey systems, and field software.
- Knowledge of data downloading.
- Must have experience working on multiple work fronts, working under time constraints, and must be adaptable to changing conditions.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education.
- Must be physically capable to participate in project walkdowns, which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in, or maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces, and lifting up to 40lbs without assistance.
Additional Qualifications:
- Prior DOE, NS&E GBU experience a plus.
- CAD literate, experience w/CAD software a plus.
- Experience with 3D Laser Scanning hardware and software a plus.
- Experience with Metrology field & office activities a plus.
- Experience with earthwork, excavation, concrete, structural steel, mechanical, and piping, etc. installation layout and verification a plus.
