This is paraprofessional engineering work performing complex and specialized drafting, research and technical analysis, inspection, and collection and management of data. Work is performed under the general direction of an immediate supervisor. Work is performed both in an office environment, and in the field as required. Work is directed and reviewed through the establishment of goals and subsequent evaluation of progress toward goal attainment.

Position reports to Airport Administration Offices with regular office hours of: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. For special events you may be require to work outside of the regular office hours that could include evenings and weekends but hours worked will not exceed 40 hours a week in most cases.

- Performs computer-aided drafting using AutoCAD Civil 3D software in preparation of simple construction plans and details for Airport construction projects.
- Performs computer-aided drafting for other airport divisions including, but not limited to, property lease exhibits, specialized and custom adapted airport layout drawings, exhibits for security and operational plans and manuals.
- Performs computations and calculations required in plans preparation and cost estimation.
- Performs occasional inspection of construction work for compliance with contract documents.
- Inspects, evaluates and documents pavement conditions.
- Maintains standard construction details.
- Receives, files, and inserts CAD based electronic information into current Airport drawings and project files, both preliminary and As-Built information.
- Creates and maintains various databases, exhibits, maps, and GIS layers electronically.
- Performs basic survey and data collection using GPS equipment.
- Assists with site utility locates and operates utility locator equipment.

- Working knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering
- Ability to use a computer to access, interpret and record information
- Skill in making engineering computations, estimates and designs and in preparing plans and specifications
- Skill in writing reports, quantity take-offs, and preparing cost estimates
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Knowledge and ability to use standard AutoCAD and related software
- Ability to recognize and respond to signals that tell the CAD system operator that the equipment is operating properly and/or waiting for a response
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, and the public
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
- Requires ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license
- Requires ability to pass federal security background investigations required by the DHS/Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to acquire and maintain airport identification and access control media.
- Require ability to pass and obtain certification for unescorted access onto runways and taxiways (Air Operations Area (AOA) training).
- An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
- Three years of computer-aided drafting experience in one of the following or a combination of the following
- AutoCAD
- CATIA
- Inventor
- MicroStation
- Revit
- SOLIDWORKS
- Valid Driver's License required
- Required computer-aided or graduation from an accredited course and one year of engineering support or construction support experience preferred
- Offers of employment are contingent upon passing mandatory ten-year background investigation that includes employment, driver's license, security threat assessment (STA), criminal history records check (CHRC), and pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
