Engineering Tech Iv (Port Engineer)

Cardinal Point Captains, Inc. (CPC) is seeking experienced and well-qualified full-time/non-exempt Engineering Technician IV - Seaborne in Port Hueneme, CA.
The Engineering Technician IV performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. This technician performs at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as:

• Main duties will be serving as Seaborne Targets Port Engineer supporting all vessels in the contracts inventory, located at Point Hueneme, CA.
• Develop draft yard proposals to include costing matrix and timeline - required.
• Lead troubleshooting effort of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic failures. Report finding and communicate resolution path - required.
• Read and understand schematically drawings, understanding of Code of Federal Regulations and U.S. Coast Guard regulations in support of marine vessels - required
• Technical writing skills to assist in documenting new manufacturing and/or assembling instructions for new designs developed in-house- required.
• Ability to independently plan & support efforts including timelines, possible cost estimates requiring parts and equipment, shipping & travel arrangements and coordination with the end user- required.
• Working knowledge of crane, deck, and anchor winch operations - required.
• Maintain active Secret clearance - required.
• Knowledge in performing mechanical repairs on Caterpillar engines, desired.
• Advanced knowledge with generator systems and related marine auxiliary equipment, including hydraulics and electrical, desired.
• Additional duties to serve as chief engineer or crew on vessels ranging from 24' RHIBS to 264' support vessels and targets, support towing operations, target recovery, and offshore navigation in accordance with USCG standards.

Work Conditions:

• Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors. Outdoor duties may be performed on shore and afloat on even or uneven surfaces, which may be dry or wet.
• Requires the ability to work in a seaborne environment with some shift work at remote locations with multiple over-night assignments. Estimate approximately 20 - 25 days per year working underway on U.S. Navy or partner small boats.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Travel to remote working locations required and routine deployments on support and target vessels may be required, INCONUS and occasional OCONUS for mission support.
• Overtime required at times to support operations.
• Work Schedule currently is a 9/80 schedule (Mon - Thurs 9 hours, alternating Friday, 1 work 8 hrs. 1 off)

Requirements
Education/Experience/Skills:

• Engineering degree highly desired.
• Technical school training or specialized training in the appropriate field required or a total of ten plus (10+) years' experience in performing the stated functions may replace education.
• Experience in a military environment (E-7+) or on a military facility preferred but not required.
• Strong knowledge of Computer/Networking/MS Office
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Positive customer service attitude.
• Current CA Driver License required.
• U S Citizenship required.
