Job description

This position is in the District 4 - Electrical Maintenance Assets. Under the general direction of Area Electrical Superintendent, the incumbent will perform complex transportation electrical engineering work at the advanced journey level class of the Electrical Engineering Technician series. Duties will include the electrical and electronic support representing the Electrical Maintenance Department for the District's planning, design, installation, maintenance, and operation of Electrical/TMS/ITS.
The incumbent will take lead in the development of improved Caltrans electrical assets inventory process; Will be required to conduct field reviews that consist of the inspection of Caltrans & non-Caltrans electrical asset construction projects to assure strict adherence to established standards and practices; Is responsible to see that construction projects adhere to current maintenance agreements, and participates in the development of new agreements and amendments; The incumbent is responsible for assisting Assets in the interpretation and preparations of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for a variety of Highway Maintenance (HM), SB1, and Capital Minor B funded projects. Employee will be required to work closely with PG&E, internal, and external customers to coordinate proper service connection and correct utility billing. Employee will also review agreements with Cities and Counties. Ensures during the development of projects, the consideration, and when appropriate, the implementation of Smart Mobility and Complete Streets components, towards the Department's mission to provide a safe, sustainable, integrated, and efficient transportation system to enhance California's economy and livability.
Incumbent may be assigned by supervisor or lead engineer to work with an engineer within assigned branch. This position requires working independently to complete assignments.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Electrical Engineering Technician III E xam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions
This position is located in District 4, Solano County.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
Normally, the incumbent will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. The incumbent may be required to visit the district offices or other HQ units at various locations. The incumbent may be required to drive either a personal or state vehicle to some locations.
The incumbent will be required to work outdoors to do field reviews, investigations, and monitor traffic problems, and may be exposed to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, and/or extreme heat or cold. While in the field, the incumbent must follow safety training and regulations, be constantly alert and responsible for personal safety when working alongside the roadway.
