Anticipated Date of Application Window Closure: 02/29/23(or until filled)

Pay Range: $20 to $22 per hour

Summary:

The Engineering Service Technician must have extensive welding and metalworking product knowledge and its various applications. Design and function welding and metalworking equipment must be understood. The position requires good telephone and e-mail communication skills and the ability to work positively with customers regarding Forney products. The Service Technician must be able to troubleshoot equipment over the phone with limited information without getting frustrated with customers. The Service Technician must be able to do bench top testing, root cause failure analysis, and repair of electrical and mechanical machinery.

 

Requirements

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Extensive electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repair
  • Develop and maintain service manuals and procedures for Forney authorized Warranty Service Centers
  • Provide direct technical information as requested by Forney Warranty Service Centers and Customers
  • Keep the testing and training lab along with service area in pristine condition at all times
  • Develop training materials and provide technical training as necessary to the Forney organization
  • Provide direct technical support to Forney's customers and distributors
  • Must communicate effectively with management, the Engineering team, Forney customer service, sales personnel and external      customers
  • Engineering and Technical Services
  • Provide root cause analysis
  • Write Technical Service Bulletins
  • Maintain a safe working area; work with safe mechanical and electrical practices at all times
  • Flex into other Engineering Service roles as necessary
  • Operate advanced testing and diagnostic equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience:

Technical Associates Degree preferred with two years similar technical work experience required. A minimum of two years' experience in electrical and mechanical equipment service and repair is required. Experience of two or more years in a technical service is helpful. The ability to read and understand technical drawings, wiring diagrams and specifications is mandatory. Professional and courteous communication is necessary. 

  

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of welders and welding accessories is required. Some welding skill to determine working condition  of various machines is required.
  • Working knowledge of computers to allow management of spare parts inventory, warranty database input, and service work orders as needed.

Language & Mathematical Skills:

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and repair instructions, and procedure manuals is required. Strong verbal and e-mail communication skills are a must in this position. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagrams. Must be a self-starter and able to perform tasks without direct supervision. Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality. Maintains strict confidentiality at all times.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use computers and telephones to communicate and document product discussions/troubleshooting sessions with external customers regarding Forney products. This job includes strenuous physical activity part of the time. The job requires occasional lifting of 50 or more pounds repetitively through the day. When working in the warehouse, moving pallets of material or individual welding units by pallet jack or dolly is typical. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.
