POSITION SUMMARY
The Development Services Department seeks an Engineering Inspector I
to join the Urban Engineering Division's Team.
The Engineering Inspector I performs technical work in the inspection of public works construction projects and private development projects. An employee in this class is responsible for performing a wide variety of inspections in the engineering, infrastructure and construction field to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes and other applicable regulations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.   • Projects assigned may include the construction of buildings, sanitary sewers, water lines, street paving, stormwater, sea walls, sidewalks, and other infrastructure construction projects
  • Performs inspections of construction located in the City right-of-way to determine compliance with approved permits and accompanying plans
  • Reviews approved construction schedules; verifies completed work of contractors
  • Organizes data collected from the field; prepares organized technical reports of findings
  • Reviews drawings for errors, omissions, and constructability
  • Reads and interprets construction plans and specifications; reviews various construction related documents
  • Determines quantities of materials used; verifies amount of work completed for pay request applications; maintains daily records for the purpose of estimating costs and payments to the contractor
  • Investigates complaints, including road damage, stormwater issues, right-of-way, and utility construction
  • Prepares and/or completes correspondence, documents, forms, reports, and other grant related field activities to meet local, state, and federal reporting requirements in accordance with project funding
  • Electronically prepares reports and maintains inspection records of work performed and properly enters inspection data, including documents and images using provided hardware and software systems and equipment
  • Performs related work as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent supplemented by technical course work in construction, engineering, estimating or related field
  2. One (1) to three (3) years of road, water and wastewater, or other public infrastructure construction experience or bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and registration as an Engineering Intern (EI)
  3. Possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire
  4. Depending on area of assignment, must possess or be able to obtain Maintenance of Traffic Certification (MOT) and Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) - Stormwater Management Inspector Certification within six (6) months of hire.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS- FDOT Construction Training Qualification Program (CQTP) - Asphalt Level I and II certification
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine who will be required to work.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift, carry, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, grasp, stand and access heights or areas where limited space is available. May be required to perform work on a marine vessel.

HOW TO APPLY/ VETERAN INFORMATION
Depending on the number of applications and the quality of their education and experience, the examination may consist of one or more of the following tests: Evaluation of Training and Experience, Oral Interview, Written Examination, or other assessment method. Applicants must attain a minimum score of 70 in each part of the examination to qualify. All successful applicants will be required to pass a medical examination, including drug screening, prior to appointment.
An eligible veteran who enters an open-competitive examination shall receive preference points added to the total passing score earned in the examination as provided for in the Florida Statutes. To obtain veteran's preference, candidates MUST submit a copy of separation papers and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form (J-204)
