This is a highly responsible engineering position. An employee in this classification is responsible for the preparation and review of difficult and complex engineering assignments associated with planning, design, operation, and construction-based projects and studies. Work is under the general supervision of the Engineering Supervisor. Responsibilities afford the opportunity for independent judgment and action in planning details of work and in making technical decisions.
- Prepares scope of work for a given project or study which requires data gathering, specifications, plans, diagrams, schematics, equipment/materials and cost estimates for aspects of the project or study.
- Scope of work also includes project management and quality control of work done by parties associated with the project or study.
- Investigates and analyzes plant operation and maintenance problems; determines solutions.
- Designs and/or implements modifications or improvements to the plants or other City facilities.
- Assists other divisions and City departments on multi-disciplinary projects and studies.
- Represents the City as liaison to other utility and industry organizations involved in the projects or studies.
- Acts as the City's representative/liaison with residential and commercial developers in all phases of the development.
- Supervision may be exercised over lower level engineering, technical, and trades personnel.
- Performs related work as required
- Graduation from a regionally accredited four (4) year college or university with a degree in engineering science.
- Graduation from a regionally accredited four (4) year college or university with a degree in engineering science
- Three (3) years of experience in related engineering work.
- Graduation from a regionally accredited four-year (4) college or university with Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.
- Five (5) years of experience in related engineering work.
- Must possess a valid state of Florida driver's license. The employing division will indicate which class of license and/or endorsement is required.
- Must maintain a valid telephone number.
- Ability to attend meetings and visit job sites at locations other than primary work assignment area.
- May be required to pass and maintain qualification for:
- Respiratory Protection Physical
- Pulmonary Function
- Qualitative and Quantitative Fit Test(s)
- May be required to work overtime, or alternate hours, as necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
- This position may be designated as Mission Critical by Department Director and City Management.
- Extensive knowledge of fundamental and applied engineering sciences, principles, and practices.
- Knowledge of general business practices, financial understanding & analysis.
- Extensive skill in the use of drafting software, engineering and mathematical references.
- Extensive skill with tables, charts, and computer equipment required in professional engineering work.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with co-workers, other City employees and the general public.
- Ability to exhibit good leadership characteristics and responsibility.
- Complete knowledge of the design of water and wastewater systems.
- Complete knowledge of Utility standards and policies as they relate to development projects.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:
Requires sedentary and active work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis, and routine keyboard operations.
- The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards.
- The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
