Job Description:
Microchip is seeking a Facilities Electrical Engineer to become a member of the Facilities Engineering Team at our Colorado Springs operation. The preferred candidate will have a strong electrical background with some hands-on experience installing, inspecting, maintaining, and upgrading electrical distribution and control systems. The ideal candidate will have a firm grasp of electrical engineering principals and possess excellent communication skills. The essential functions of this position include working individually and in a team environment, reviewing the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of industrial electrical systems, and championing efforts to improve energy efficiency in support of site and corporate ESG goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate, maintain, and support the upgrading of site electrical distribution equipment including transformers, static switches, switchgears, motor control centers, and distribution panels
  • Support the installation of industrial mechanical and semiconductor processing equipment through the selection and sizing of transformers, conductors, conduit, and circuit protection devices
  • Support facilities technicians in the electrical troubleshooting of industrial equipment and control circuits
  • Assess existing electrical systems and develop solutions to improve reliability and energy efficiency
  • Prepare construction work packages for site electricians
  • Procure necessary materials for electrical installations
  • Create and maintain circuit and one-line diagrams for site electrical systems
  • Maintain site electrical panel schedule database
  • Conduct feasibility studies on the implementation of new technologies including hybrid rotary uninterruptible power supplies
  • May have secondary responsibilities in other disciplines including building controls and life safety
  • Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in controlled situations

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with specialization in power systems preferred
  • Experience or relevant coursework in industrial electrical distribution and/or electronic circuits preferred
  • Experience or working knowledge of industrial voltages including 120V, 208V, 277V, and 480V preferred
  • Experience or working knowledge of industrial electrical equipment including transformers, static switches, switchgears, motors, electrical panels, variable frequency drives preferred
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards including NFPA 70E a plus
  • Knowledge of electrical codes including NEC, NESC, NFPA, IEEE is a plus
  • Firm grasp of basic engineering and mechanical principles
  • Project management experience and/or experience procuring construction materials is a plus
  • Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical) a plus
  • MS Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Must be able to work independently (self-directed) and as a team member
  • Have proficiency with computer software and applications in the office suite and TEAMS communications

Pay Range:
The expected base salary range for this position, if filled in Colorado, is $75-85k, dependent on specific skills and work experience. We offer a total compensation package that ranks among the best in the industry. It consists of competitive base pay, restricted stock units, and quarterly bonus payments.
