LOCATION OF POSITION

MDH, Prevention and Health Promotion Administration, Baltimore, MD

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to engage with members of the public, partner organizations, and health care providers on behalf of the Maryland WIC program, particularly populations that do not speak English as their first language. The operations of Maryland WIC require timely and courteous customer service as well as disciplined and informative messaging to the general public through multiple channels including social media and video. This position will also assist in formulating policies designed to reach non-English speaking residents of Maryland who form an increasingly large portion of participants. This position will also serve as a resource to integrate diversity, equity and inclusion and antiracism principles into the program’s framework.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to two years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must be bilingual and fluent in English and Spanish.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates should possess the following:

  • Strong customer service skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish and be comfortable conveying complex information to people who have limited education;
  • Skills and experience to produce short form video content or have the ability to learn how to produce this content; and,
  • Familiarity with social media.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
