- Development, engineering and design review and technical oversight of ESS projects.
- Ensure all engineering and design activities are aligned with company and project environmental, health and safety policies and objectives.
- Establish and maintain the engineering, design criteria and applicable standards and specifications for BESS projects.
- Define, review and approve the work of technical consultants to ensure consistent and cost-effective designs and timely delivery.
- Support project management and business development teams to assure timely and cost-effective resolution to regulatory, permitting and technical issues associated with the execution and delivery of BESS projects.
- Direct activities of designers, consultants and contractors, and manage meetings and conference calls to achieve efficient use of resources, meet deadlines for deliverables, minimize delays, avoid crises and resolve conflicts.
- Write, edit and/or review technical scope of work documents, specifications, procedures, site reports, progress reports, feasibility studies, proposals, presentations, etc.; review and negotiate technical aspects of EPC contracts, interconnection agreements, etc.
- Collaborate in the preparation and coordination of proposals, proposal materials, and other marketing efforts in support of the market segment. This may include gathering, verifying, editing, and formatting proposal information.
- Plan and manage project development engineering activities and support technical diligence on site selection and project acquisitions.
- Contribute to development of engineering capability, project engineering management processes; technology roadmap, software tools, etc.
- Coordinate with Development team and external consultants to deliver energy models and simulations, electrical schematics, plant and equipment layouts, system cost estimates, technical exhibits, etc.
- Support the ongoing search for improved system cost and performance by contributing to evaluations of new techniques, technologies, systems and components, and be a resource regarding emerging regulations, technologies and techniques in the clean energy industry.
- Minimum BS electrical or mechanical engineering (or related numerate discipline).
- Master's degree in an energy-related technical discipline preferred.
- Minimum five years technical experience in design and implementation of utility scale grid-connected battery or industrial scale (>1 MW) microgrid Energy Storage projects, technologies and systems.
- Familiarity with a broad range of Energy Storage technologies, software tools, and projects, especially ‘Tier 1' battery products and vendors or system integrators.
- Previous exposure to energy project development, interconnection, and permitting processes; cost estimating; construction schedules; EPC contract terms and technical exhibits is desirable but not essential.
- Academic or industry experience in one or more of: design or commissioning of power plants or interconnection substations; solar, battery, flywheel, or wind power generation systems; writing specifications, instruction manuals, or scopes of work for equipment or construction activities; performing, writing or reviewing relevant technical studies and site survey reports power systems, energy modelling or forecasting; power purchase agreements, interconnection applications or agreements.
- Proficiency in MS Office & Outlook is essential. CAD or coding skills an advantage.
- Excellent interpersonal, written communications, analytical and quantitative skills.
- Evidence of potential or ability to manage consultants, designers and contractors.
- Detail-oriented and self-motivated high achiever with ability to multi-task, perform duties in a collaborative working environment.
- Ability and willingness to travel to projects sites and meetings, sometimes in remote locations.
