GENERAL SUMMARY:
Functioning in a lead capacity, with direct responsibility for the workload and workflow of the team. Provides instruction for the Edward Hospital Paramedic Education Program (EHPEP) and the Edward Hospital Emergency Medical Services System (EHEMSS). Assists the Coordinator Paramedic Education in fostering positive relationships and coordinating various clinical settings for practical experience for EHPEP students and with fire departments for field internships; assists with the coordination of all aspects of training. Works collaboratively with all levels of healthcare providers. Teaches and assists in planning curriculum with the Coordinator Paramedic Education.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following duties and responsibilities are all essential job functions, as defined by the ADA, except those that begin with the word "May.")
Provides direction to the team on assignments. Participates in the completion of work tasks and assists the team with complex work tasks or problem areas. Acts as the "go to" resource for the team. Typically provides input into performance reviews, staff training & development for the team and provides input regarding work assignments. Monitors the completion of work tasks by the team.
Assists the Coordinator Paramedic Education with the coordination of all aspects of training for students enrolled in the EHPEP including but not limited to: entry applications; basic requirements; notification of acceptances or declinations; preparation, speaker coordination (scheduling), instruction, updating and scoring knowledge evaluation tools; and appropriate room/equipment availability. Enforces the EHPEP Student Manual policies and procedures.
Supports the Coordinator Paramedic Education with monitoring, evaluating and counseling of EHPEP student progress by tracking attendance, reviewing clinical rotations and field internship experiences, and providing feedback and recommendations for dismissal when appropriate. Assists with the documentation of grades, performance/behavioral issues and any counseling are timely and thorough. Assures that student academic records are maintained consistently with IDPH, Edward Hospital legal requirements and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and as amended.
Participates in the planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of EHEMSS educational offerings; supervises the activities of course participants during instructional time. Teaches and aids the Coordinator Paramedic Education in planning curriculum.
Evaluates learner performance, provides feedback and develops learner remediation plans.
Participates in activities that promote the EHPEP, to include student recruiting and program marketing events, as appropriate
Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in EMS by reading appropriate professional journals; completing EHEMSS CE/training requirements; and attending other training as appropriate. Applies information technologies, didactic and psychomotor materials skillfully to support the teaching-learning process.
Uses a variety of strategies, assures that the EHPEP fosters integrity such as respect for patients and colleagues, an appropriate climate for learning, the concept of lifelong learning, and critical thinking skills.
Participates in all aspects of the EHEMSS, as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education, Experience and/or Skills Required:
- Associate Degree or higher in nursing, EMS, education, management, public health or related field
- A minimum of two years of recent experience in EMS/ED
- Knowledge of instructional methods
- Teaching experience to deliver content, skills instruction and remediation
License/Certification Required:
- Within one year of hire will obtain instructor status: ACLS, PALS, (PHTLS/ITLS); Illinois Lead Instructor License required subject to class availability
- Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse or Paramedic licensure
- Current CPR certification issued by either American Heart Association or Red Cross
- A valid driver's license is required if the incumbent is selected to perform related duties at an offsite location. If the incumbent uses their personal vehicle, the incumbent must maintain automobile liability coverage as required by law and evidence of such coverage may be requested
License/Certification Preferred:
- Pediatric Advance Life Support/Pediatric Education Pre-Hospital Professionals (PEPP/PALS)
- If RN, Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS), Trauma Nursing Course Certified (TNCC)
- If RN, Certification as an IDPH Emergency Communications Registered Nurse (ECRN)
- If Paramedic, Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support/International Trauma Life Support (PHTLS/ITLS)
