Description

Employee Relations Specialist

Position title: Employee Relations Specialist

Reports to: Director of Human Resources

Supervises: N/A


Position summary:

The individual in this role is responsible for maintaining positive relationships between employees and the organization and fulfilling HR customer service functions by utilizing traditional and innovative strategies to identify the services necessary to assist in the success of both internal candidates and the organization's current workforce. This position also assists with the recruiting and onboarding of new employees, handles employee-related tasks such as counseling and paperwork completion, supports training and development, and provides administrative support to the Human Resources department as needed.


Duties and responsibilities:

  • Performs customer service functions for the HR department by constantly meeting with employees and answering employee requests/questions in person.
  • Monitors and handles the HR project in IFB's ticketing system successfully by being responsive and meeting designated SLAs.
  • Assists with recruitment, interview, and onboarding process by tracking status of candidates in HRIS and responding with follow-up correspondence at the end of the recruiting process.
  • Works with applicants to identify support/resources needed to assist in a smooth transition to our workforce.
  • Responsible for evaluating opportunities for employee development.
  • Leverages current community-based programs as well as creates and drives community engagement with our organization and our employees.
  • Identifies and implements programs to assist employees with life & work challenges (i.e., budgeting to improve financial wellbeing)
  • Conducts regular follow-up with candidates and employees to determine the effectiveness of the programs.
  • Handles employee issues and complex cases such as disciplinary grievances and appeals.
  • Ensures managers and supervisors are upskilled to deal with people in a fair and effective manner by supporting training and development of leadership roles.
  • Uses social and professional networking sites to identify new, innovative, and cost-effective ways of executing programs.
  • Meets with individuals with transition challenges and provides appropriate and specific goals along with problem solving techniques to aid in the individual's growth and overall success.
  • Helps drive HR strategies and provides guidance on HR policies and procedures to ensure individual and team performance is consistent with business mission, priorities, and values.
  • Ensures inclusion and an open and equitable work environment for all employees related to programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Serves as liaison between the Human Resources department and employee transition support programs or groups such as Mentorship Program and AAA Committee.
  • Collects and analyzes employee data to develop creative retention initiatives and employee morale booster events.
  • Conducts exit interviews.
  • Organizes and updates employee files.
  • Assist with other HR related administrative duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be customer service driven.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Collaborates with other professionals, conducting research, and utilizing critical thinking skills and knowledge to address candidate and employee's needs.
  • Knowledge of state and federal employment laws.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and tact in dealing with employees and management.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Must have good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
  • Experience with HRIS software and Applicant Tracking Systems

Education and work experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field preferred and/or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an HR role required.
  • Knowledge of HR law and regulatory requirements preferred.
