Job description

Beztak, a national Real Estate Development, Construction, and Property Management company, wants you to join our family of talented individuals.
Beztak is looking to hire an Employee Relations Specialist to join our team. The Employee Relations Specialist focuses on Employee Relations activities, policies, processes, procedures, and will demonstrate Employee Relations expertise, excellent judgment, and highly developed analytical, interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills. This position will set the strategy for Employee Relations and support the Company handling workplace concerns and corrective action plans, interventions and investigations as necessary. This role will work extensively with Leadership to identify opportunities to address common Employee Relations issues proactively and preventatively. The Employee Relations Specialist will provide guidance and coaching to managers of all levels to address employee behavior and performance areas, as well as stay attuned to organizational and operational changes across the Company to identify potential Employee Relations risks and develop plans to address. This position is in-office in Farmington Hills, MI.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Develop and maintain productive and collaborative relationships with managers and associates in order to facilitate effective service to all employees. Manage and resolve complex Employee Relations issues.
  • Partner with leadership to ensure thorough and objective investigations when the need arises.
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to managers on proper coaching and progressive counseling process. This includes drafting documentation, assuring consistency, recommending appropriate course of action, and modeling proper techniques.
  • Utilize Company and employee policies and procedures to resolve complex employee and management inquiries that arise as a result of daily work routines.
  • Assist managers with understanding and applying company policies hosting regular educational sessions with managers to drive their confidence in navigating sensitive employee issues and conversations.
  • Conduct exit interviews and identify turnover trends. Participate in developing strategies for improvements based on feedback from communities.
  • Develop, research, and analyze information to support Human Resource policies and procedures.
  • Administer activities related to Employee Relations programs, including Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), unemployment, litigation, retention, termination, turnover, grievance handling and severance issues.
  • Assist in conducting difficult employee counseling sessions regarding EEO charges, Americans with Disabilities Act, performance, termination, and other topics.
  • Liaise with Legal Counsel on open litigation issues, representing the HR perspective, coordinate drafting of separation agreements and other separation documentation.
  • Maintain the highest level of integrity when managing Employee Relations issues and managing reported matters.
  • Maintain professional knowledge in area of expertise through conferences, professional publications, and seminars.
  • Assist with terminations and perform and status changes in the HRIS system. Send communication to separated teammates such as job abandonment letters, when applicable.
  • Aid in the development, maintenance, and production of monthly, quarterly, or annual reports as required.
  • Become knowledgeable in other areas of HR to respond to basic teammate questions related to leave administration, benefits, talent acquisition, workers compensation.
  • Assist with employee engagement events and positive social campaigns.
  • Provide assistance with other duties, as assigned, to support HR Department.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or related area strongly preferred.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in Employee Relations, Human Resource Management or similar.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of Human Resources laws (i.e., EEO/DOL, ADA, ERISA, FMLA, FLSA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Able to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
  • Formal investigation training, preferred.
  • SHRM HR Certification or other, preferred.
  • Other related skills and/or abilities required to perform this job.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The position requires prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. You will also frequently walk, stand, and communicate with co-workers, guests, and the public. Must be able to handle a fast-paced work environment, with fluid urgent priorities and high levels of stress.
