Job Summary
- Completes, or supervises completion, of all investigations of allegations such as discrimination, harassment, retaliation, hostile work environment, and policy violations, among others.
- Coaches and educates HR Partners and NorthStar people managers on implementing resolutions for behavioral and performance management challenges.
- Supplies guidance to people managers in composing all corrective actions (documented verbal warnings, written warnings, clarifications of expectations, termination letters for those clinical employees whose employment is governed by an employment agreement, and performance improvement plans).
- Enters, supports, and updates all incidents, complaints, and investigations to the company’s incident management system.
- With respect to data reporting and analysis, the ERM updates and presents the Employee Relations Executive Dashboard at quarterly executive compliance committee meetings, showing trends and themes, as well as opportunities for process improvement and employee education.
- Owns and supports the NorthStar Employee Handbook, collaboratively consulting on policy changes and updates, as necessary. Helps in writing and editing policies in professional and easy-to- understand language.
- Partners closely with the Talent Management team in HR on annual performance reviews, annual goal setting, and facilitation of educational sessions.
- Represents the Employee Relations function across a broad range of clinical and corporate employee stakeholders, engaging them with respect to best practices and coaching them when needed.
- Consults with in-house legal counsel, external attorneys, NorthStar compliance, and NorthStar quality management to ensure risks are fully considered and guidance to employees is consistent.
- Coaches and educates employees at all levels with respect to Employee Relations content, either through personally led trainings, small-group-facilitated discussions, or one-on-one conversations.
- Maintains a wide variety of employee records for the purpose of supplying information and documentation.
- Acts as NorthStar’s Employee Relations subject matter expert by staying current on employee and labor relations (attending webinars, conferences, and external trainings, often sharing back education and insights with the broader HR team).
- Labor Relations experience required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong grasp of soft skills such as emotional intelligence, professionalism, and cooperation.
- Outstanding interpersonal and decision-making skills.
- Thorough understanding of state and federal laws concerning labor and Employee Relations.
- Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in discussing and/or negotiating controversial and/or confrontational situations.
- Ability to present educational material for conducting training and education sessions.
- Must work independently and with direction.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Office 365 Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to compose reports, memos, letters, and other correspondence.
- Ability to prioritize workload and meet strict deadlines.
- Works directly with or develops confidential information, which requires regular use of discretion.
