Position Summary

This Employee Health Nurse II is accountable for assuring quality medical care for employees, assessing and tracking TB, drug screen and Hep B results. The Employee Health Nurse II will train and help prevent job-related injuries and illnesses, while assisting with implementation of health and safety standards. They also triage staff worker's compensation issues, and provide ergonomics evaluation assessment and in-house health and safety training.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with up to two (2) years experience.
  • Current RN license within the state of practice.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Must be a BLS Instructor to assist with in-hourse BLS training for employees.
  • Must be a Certififed Ergonomic Assessment Specialist to assist with Ergonomic Evaluations for Employees.
  • Complete annual educational requirements.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing and demonstrate a high level of listening skills.
  • Fluency in additional languages preferred.
  • Computer (PC) literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook email and database software.
  • Commitment to HIPAA and ability to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality.
  • Efficient time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and organizational needs.
  • Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to, standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking and social distancing.
  • Assist and support the Center/Department/Program to meet standards of High Reliability.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the quality assurance program of the Employee Health service, such as monthly statistics on tuberculosis exposure/screening, hepatitis screening, rubella exposure/screening, aids exposure/screening and of employees seen in the Employee Health clinic.
  • Assess employees who have been injured on the job; treat an employee if an employee sustains a minor injury.
  • Refer injured employees to approved workers' compensation physicians for treatment and monitoring. 
  • Perform tuberculin skin testing and other immunizations as required.
  • Review return to work authorization for employees returning to work after and any accompanying medical records before conducting a physical examination.
  • Protect human health against health and safety hazards occurring in the work environment.
  • Maintain the privacy of the patient and the confidentiality of the medical record. Responsible for immunizations as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Infection Control Committee.
  • Reduce health care costs caused by employees and employers injuries, diseases, illnesses and premature retirement resulting from or influenced by occupational, environmental, life style and social health determinants.
  • Provide ergonomics evaluation assessment.
  • Assist with in-hourse BLS training for WSH employees.
  • Promote mental health, healthy life style and prevent major non-communicable diseases using specific workplace health policies and management tools.
  • Use resources effectively and efficiently, protect the natural environment and creat health supportive environment.
  • Develop or lead training sessions on topics such as infectious diseases, chemical exposure and the use of personal protective equipment. Document training efforts and evaluate the effectiveness of such programs by administering post-training assessments.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment.  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel.  The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.   The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

 

The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care.  The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
