The goal of the Emeritus Registered Nurse (E-RN) program is to extend the work-life of the experienced RN enabling mentoring relationships with graduate and new hire nurses by conferring knowledge from one generation of nurse to the next. The E-RN uses knowledge accumulated over a course of a nursing career to provide support to nursing team members in specific areas of strategic priority related to safety quality patient experience and team member support/engagement.
The E-RN team member's priority is to mentor new nurses into the workforce via direct observation and guidance just-in-time education or shadow observations/partnership which ultimately aids in the delivery of a remarkable patient experience. Through these actions the E-RN will contribute to the organizations vision of achieving our professional commitment to team members patients and families. The E-RN will use Zero Harm safety behaviors/error prevention tools and high reliability strategies as appropriate to ensure a safe extraordinary patient experience. Flexible/self-scheduling available; minimum of 8-hour commitment per month with evening or night hour(s) strongly preferred.
Responsibilities:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides support to nursing team members in specific areas of strategic priority related to safety quality patient satisfaction and team member engagement at the directions of and under the supervision of department leaders.
2. Requests and assesses assignment with skill and abilities in collaboration with unit leaders.
3. Accepts various assignments as delegated; examples include but not limited to:
- Team member engagement - Serves as primary or secondary preceptor for new nurses mentors nurse residents (clinical and/or didactic) and other new orientee nurses on the unit and participates in/leads unit shared governance activities.
- Provides unit-level in-services serves as a unit expert for Epic EMR may be a Nurse Champion for a specific initiative or cover a patient assignment for team member meal breaks.
- Safety - rounds for patient safety responds to alarms and monitors patients during off-unit transports.
- Quality � makes rounds for problem-prone quality areas completes audits/gathers data participates in unit process improvement projects and assists the unit with regulatory readiness.
- Patient satisfaction - rounds proactively for patient needs respond to patient call bells supports admissions transfers and discharges facilitates video (Teams) connection between patient and significant other(s) follow up with discharged patients via telephone.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Other information:
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursingorlicensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred; Associate Degree with appropriate acute care or safety/quality experience will be considered.
- Knowledge of Epic EMR computer skills (Microsoft Word Power point excel) strong communication skills and self-directed BLS certification.
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode
NP specialty certification a plus.
Current BLS American Heart Association certification required
EXPERIENCE:
Years of Experience Required/Preferred: 10+ Required and may be retired from full or part time nursing career.
WORK ENVIRONMENT ANDPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals physicians� offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use of 0safety equipment and protective clothing.
Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. Subject to electrical and energy hazards. May lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.
